Total Noob

What's up guys.........so I'm a total noob to car audio in all its' forms. I've been browsing through this site for the past couple days, and have seen a wealth of info....some like Greek to me, and some which has totally helped me to understand how these systems work. I'm getting ready to make multiple purchases to replace my 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5SE factory system. To not annoy the vets with a huge series of questions, my first will be: What website(s) do you guys feel offer the best deals? Individual pieces or package deals, it doesn't matter. I'm gonna be working in the neighborhood of $1,000-1500 over time, like I said I'll be making multiple purchases. Just for a little extra background, I listen to all types of music........I'd like to be able to switch from a very clear, clean rock/jazz sound but also be able to bump for the hip-hop. Hope I haven't been too vague or naive, any help greatly appreciated. I really just don't want to get totally ripped off as I've seen friends do in the past. Thanks in advance.

"Houston... we have a problem here"

This request may a bit more complex then it appears. It seems this vehicle may be equipped with a Bose Premium sound system already. It may also have integrated electronics in the HU that monitors and controls alarm features and perhaps climate controls.

If you rip this system out now, it may void your warranty. Are you prepared for that step?

Swez:
The base model Altima I have (2.5SE) is not equipped with the Bose system, it's just the standard crappy sound system Nissan uses. As far as integrated electronics tied in with alarm & climate, of that I have no idea. I was planning on calling the dealership Monday to figure out what my options were regarding changing the system while maintaining warranty, guess I had better find out about integrated electronics too. Sorry, I'm just anxious.

do you want to keep your factory head unit or go with an aftermarket one?? you can greatly increase the sound of your factory by replacing your speakers and adding an amplifier to them. you do NOT have to upgrade to an aftermarket deck to enjoy good sound.

let us know exactly what you want to uograde in your new car and we'll go from there.

Right, if you like the factory unit and it has the features you like, can always replace stock speakers and add an amp or two as well. Aftermarket speakers are usually superior to stock.

Looked up the specs on your model and it did mention the Bose Premium sound option and integrated features on the HU that control other devices in the vehicle. If you kept the HU stock, made a few minor modifications, you can add amplification and a sub w/o voiding your warranty. (in most cases)

How big a system are you thinking here?
