ok..i have an mTx amplifer, two 8'' mTx off road speakers..and then two 10'' inch JL audio subs

for some reason..with the two mtx speakers hooked up, it will not play anything. when i turn on my car, and turn on my keypad, and turn up the volume, all i hear is a quick "thump" and the speakers dont work..I checked all 3 fuses....and they looked fine..what else can i look for?

This could be any number of issues. Let's get more details, before we try to troubleshoot the system.

1. What amp model # do you have here?
2. Model number of speakers and subs used
3. How are speakers/sub, wired to amp
4. Does amp power light come on?

if you think it is because of the amp, and the 2 speakers that dont match..i dont think thats right because they have been working for about 1 year

Hard to say what happened here, but if your red PROTECT light is on, there's something that has changed since it was last working. Look for shorted speaker wiring or blown speakers. THINK

Try removing the speakers from the amp for a moment and see if the Protect lamp goes out. If it does, one or both of your speakers are shot. Can test that theory with a known good speaker, hooked up to each speaker output. You should get some output from almost any speaker at hand.

If the Protect light stays on after the speakers have been disconnected, good chance the amp has internal problems. Not generally worth fixing either. Time for a new amp. Your speakers may also be blown as well. Best to read the ohmic number of each speaker with an Ohmneter. That will help a lot.

These 8's you have now, what brand and model # are they? Are they subs or full range?

Kinda new to this car audio stuff? Please read this:

http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/

"Help us help You"

1. This Optimus amp you mentioned, how many channels does it have?
2. Also, how were the subs wired to the amp?
a. One sub per channel
b. Amp channels bridged and both subs wired in parallel
c. Amp channels bridged and both subs wired in series

Am probably speaking Greek to you at the moment, but try the best you can to give wiring details.
