I just ordered 2 Powerbase PB-B1564 that are 300 wrms and 400 wmax a piece and svc. Now I need a good amp to push them. I have in mind the Alpine m350 (350 wrms-700 wmax). I've also looked at the mtx 421d and 3401, directed 600d-800d, phoenix gold 8.0.1 These are pretty much the amps that I want to stay around preferably the alpine but I'm trying to keep in mind underpowering because I heard that is worse than overpowering. I figure I'll ask the pros before I end up wasting money, thanx.

A solid Class D amp will do 2 ohms just fine. Here, a 600 Wrms @ 2 ohms amp is plenty.

Here's a good price on PG's 8.0.1

Kenwood KAC-8152D

Directed 600D is only 300 Wrms @ 2 ohms

I've heard that Kenwood has a bad reputation, is that true? Does anyone have any experience with this model? When looking at amps what kind of rms to max numbers do I need to look at or is it ok if the max on an amp exceeds the max for the subs a little bit which is 800 watts total?

You'll want to match your RMS amp power to the RMS power of the subs used.

It is better to have a few extra watts of reserve RMS power from the amp so bass spikes remain clean and full to your subs.

Kenwood is actually a pretty solid product these days. If you are iffy on them, go PG. Someone else brought this amp to my attention a short while back. After reviewing the specs and such, it seems like a very solid product offering.
