i have the opportunity to score an old school orion hc225 amp for a hundred bucks but the guy says one of the channels are bad.....if i had it fixed would it be worth the total cost .....i hear these amps are legends according to other enthusiasts....but i figure total to have the amp and have it fixed would be around 200......what do you think

Figure about $60.00 bench fees + parts as you offer for this amp. Most bench techs are more like " board swap jockies" nowadays. That means, they nail things down to a given PC board and replace the whole board. (very expensive parts list)

If that is an older amp and parts are not easily found, a swap jockie will only tie up the amp for a long time, make a bunch of excuses and take your dough anyway!

However, if you find an old tinker'er (25 years experience or more) that knows how to test components and circuits and he knows how to cross reference older op amps and such, you might get it back in full working order.

Personally, I would offer the guy the amount I am willing to throw away, (say $30) and find the right tech. Anyway you slice it, the unit will be tied up for a while. So, if impatient... do not apply for this job.
