ok i have asked things about this set up befor im haveing the same prob with a burning smell but it is only when i push it real hard i don't know if i have it hooked up right the sub is the moddel

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4061_153020681,00.html

and the amp is the older one of this
http://www.planetaudiousa.com/home/catalog/public_html/print/productSpecDetails.php?product_id=29

i have it hooked up i thought at 1 ohm

the sub i ran a wire from the + to the - and the same on the other voise cole i gess i could say i made and x with the wiers the took the + and - from the amp and hooked it to a + and - on sub this is the way i was told to hook it up then i seen this guide and it was dif. so i have no idea please help befor i mess something up

burning smell is never good. if its comming from your subs your probably cooking your voice coils... caused from over excursion, inadequate venting at the rear of the sub, how much room is between the back of your sub and the enclosure... i would back down on yor gain settings or lower the eq at the head unit for the SW maybe to 0 or -2, atleast until you have figured out how you are wiring our sub

if you have dual 4 omh sub, then you can wire at either 2 omh in paralell or 8 ohm in series... if you have dual 2 ohm, then either a 1omh load in paralell or a 4 ohm load in series...

(daul 2 ohm sub, either net of 1 ohm or 4 ohm to amp)

(dual 4 omh sub, either net of 2 ohm or 8 ohm to amp)

does this help clear things up?

if you do have it wired at 1omh or 2 ohm, you should be fine but its at 4ohm then you are underpowering this sub, so be very careful with your gain settings.. also what type of enclosure do you have, this can really make a difference on your sub, if you have it in a small sealed enclosure it going to handle everybit of that 1000 watts, but if you have it in a large ported box, 400-500 will make it work to its potential with no problem, fill us in.. good luck

i have it in a slot port box

I'm not an expert, but my understanding was you run one wire from one of the + to the other coils -. Then you run the wire from the amp to the "free" + and -. I am pretty sure you don't make an X, but I don't know if that would cause your problem.

so you went from amp pos to voice coil pos with a dot, then from voice coil neg with a dot to other voice coil pos. without a dot, then from neg without a dot to neg terminal on the amp... if thats what you did then you are in series wiring, will double the rated voice coil, if you have dual 2 ohm you are running at 4 ohm, if you have dual 4 ohm you are running at 8 ohm... that amp is one ohm stable, if i was you i would wire it in paralell setup, poth pos voice coils wired to pos terminal on the amp, and both neg voice coils of sub wired to neg terminal of the amp... with either voice coil set up(dual 2 or dual 4 ohm) you are going to be getting the most out of the amp... i cant get the amps webpage to work to get proper specs but its going to be feeding between 700-1000 watts if i can remember correctly... that means in your ported box you are going to be giving it probably a little more than it needs to reach xmax... do you have bass boost on amp turned on, if so eliminate this because you have alot of extra power to feed this sub, no need for the added distorted power.... do you have a sub sonic filter on the amp? if not get on, very bad for your sub to be playing freqs that are lower than the port tuning of the box... and the only other suggestion i have is set your gains right... turn ur head unit to the maximum volume that you would listen to it for any period of time, usually around 3/4 of the way, if your interior speakers are distorting then turn the volume down until the distortion goes away.... from there you can set your amp... for the freq setting, i would put that to about 80-100hz, then start adjusting your gain control until you hear minimul distortion from the sub then crack the gain setting back a notch or two.... then if you need you can add a little eq from the HU but never go above +2-3 on the SW output, if you are setting it that high then you need to turn it down and correct the issue with the amp gain, turning it up a lil bit...

This is very confusing as written... let's simplify things.

1. That sub has 4+4 coils (you can get 2 or 8 ohm loads, depending on the wiring configuration)

2, That amp is 1 or 2 ohm stable and adequate power for a sinle sun, wired with both coils wired in parallel (net 2 ohms load to amp)

3. Your enclosure is vented right? Do you know the tuning frequency of that enclosure with this sub?

4. Does your amp have a sub sonic filter on it now?

If you answer these questions, we can nail this one down in short order.

The enclosure dimesions, (internal) physical dimension of the port, (H, W & L) are keys to getting the port tuning frequency nailed down. Did you get/use enclosure specs recommended by Pioneer or just made things up as you went along?

NOTE: This sub is also available in a 2+2 DVC model. That model number is: TS-W3002SPL You can wir this one at 1 or 4 ohms. Which version do you have?

PS Here are full specs on this series sub from Pioneer. Note the enclosure and wiring options recommended by Pioneer:

i have no idea on the port on the box yes it has a sub sonic filter

swez on 10/22/2005 10:04:47
Dear BD4,

If you have no idea, neither do we. We are not very good mind readers on this site. Try California Psycics? hehe

TIP:

1. Measure the port dimensions: W, H & L (that will help for starters)
2. What are the internal dimensions of this box? (H,W & D)

With this detail, we can approximate the tuning frequency of your box and suggest SSF settings.

i whent by a shop in lawton, Ok they said the box was 37 hrz

swez on 10/23/2005 18:39:23
OK, That helps a bit. Set your SSF as close to 35 Hz as possible.

This amp is 700 Wrms @ 1 ohm. Best news here, it's stable at 1 ohm loads.

The sub is wired for 1 ohm. It is also rated for 1000 Wrms. The only thing I can determine here so far is that if the sub gets hot, it will heat up the voice coils and you will smell it. There are 2 main reasons this might happen:

1. SSF is set too low (30 Hz or less) and overheats as it cannot cool adequately below port tuning frequency

2. The larger ported boxes have less air pressure to restrict the cone. It can reach X-max at much lower power input levels and when it does, you should hear some mechanical noises from the sub. If the sub gets damaged in this manner, it can rub a lot and create extra heat.

That's about all I can say for the moment. Check your SSF filter settings.

so i do have the sub hooked up right i whent and changed the ssf it was on like 20 i put it to 35 i think is the best way to say how i hooked the sub to the amp

1 + 2 -

3 + 4 -

this is if u were looking at the back of the sub i ran a jumper wire from 1 to 4 then a jumper from 2 to 3 then hooked the amps + to 3 and the amps - to 4 is this running 1 ohm

swez on 10/23/2005 19:37:11
Right, both +'s on sub to Pos on amp. Both -'s on sub to Neg on amp is 1 ohm. (full parallel)

The change on the SSF setting should help too. Just avoid using more than about +3 dB of bass boost on amp or HU. This can increase clipping to sub and cause overheating as well.

Sounds like a plan there BD,
Swez

so i have it rong right now ? im running jumpers from the + to - and same on other side shuld i change it ?
