You can put the wherever you like. However, conventional wisdom says... "put your best gear up front, where you the driver can enjoy them most." Read this for a primer:

As for the rear deck, this model seems to have space for a 6.5" round as well. You can use a coaxial (2-way) type speaker or a MB speaker that only delivers limited high frequency signals from the back. Not as good as subs, but one can get pretty (close to good bass) decent performance when using speaker baffles (enclosures) in the rear.

Are you using the HU power amps here only or planning on an outboard amp as well?

ill be using the hu power amp for now, its a kenwood kdc217 and i want to upgrade it to a pioneer 4700mp. i plan on later buying a sub or maybe two for bass w/an amp right now i just want the loudness that my factory speakers arent giving me

see i went to crutchfield and the "what fits" advisor told me that the polk db6500 spkrs will fit in the back and front locations.

it also told me that the polk db650s will fit in the front only.

would it work out with 2 sets of comp. spkrs in my honda civic?

You may have to get back there and look at the stock speakers in the rear now. It is easiest to use the same size (format) speakers in there now. However, there are modification kits that will permit other speaker sizes to be installed.

There's no reason why you cannot use 2 sets of Polk Comps in this setup. It may be a tad cheaper to use a 2-way Coaxial version. (if it fits)
There are adapter kits available for doing this. (db650's)

This may help: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PlVouPjQmas/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=103200&I=120827802

One good thing here, the db6500 and db650's have high efficiency ratings. Both are 92dB SPL@ 1watt/1meter. This should help your HU produce more sound than most any factory sepaker can with HU power. Amping them later, will be a big step up in loudness and clear audio. A modest sub & amp later, will give you a nice sound when tweaked.

PS That Kenwood HU is usable and has 22 Wrms x 4 channels. Not bad at all. If you like the HU and just want to add MP3 player later, there are ways to do this w/o buying a new HU.
