Hey whats up guys? Been a while since I've been on the board. Anyways as soon as I'm done this custom install for a customer I'm going to be working on redesigning my current system. Currenty running a Resonant Engineering 15" XXX with a Orion 2500d amplifier in a 11 cu ft enclosure tuned to 35hz. Between my seats i have a fiberglass consol i built that is housing an Adire Koda 8 that has 200watts of power running to it from an Alpine MRV-F450 amplifier. The Alpine also supplies power to my mids and high's. I just purchased a JL Audio 8w7 to replace the Adire Koda. Since the upgrade is comming im going to redesign the Consol and purchase a new amplifier for it since the 200watts from the Alpine isnt going to cut it. And since im redesigning the consol, might as well redesign the XXX enclosure too right? I'm thinking ported at 20hz is sounding good since i dont compete much in SPL anymore due to my busy schedule. Any ideas for a solid amp for my JL w7? Im considering the JL 500/1. Any other solid reputible options? -PL Replies (7) Victor on 09/27/2005 15:47:16 http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_info?p_item_name=MRD-M605&p_category=40&p_subcategory=140&p_main=10&p_more=y http://jbl.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=GTO601.1&cat=AMP&ser=GTS ftp://208.187.38.55/Phoenix_Gold/Manuals/Amplifiers/octane_r/octane_mono_manual.pdf all i can think of as of now, Victor... swez on 09/27/2005 17:45:40 A smaller Orion amp is always a solid choice, as would be Memphis, JL 1000/1; 500/1 or perhaps HiFonics. Any of these amp choices are not going to displease you one wit. Swez PS Good to see you back at CK... been a while dude! lessismorespl on 09/27/2005 18:27:36 I bhelieve the impedence on the W7 8 is the same as 10, 12, 13...1.5ohm. A good choice would be the Diamond D3600.1, when I upgraded, I went w/ the Diamond amp over my old JL E Series 1800 and am very staified w/ the performance. I run mine @ 1ohm on 2 W3v2 12's wired in parallel/parallel and it has never let me down. I'm sure it would match up sweet to the W7. The JL 500/1 is never a bad choice in my opinion, nor is the Memphis PR 1000.1. An Orion 600.1 would do nice also. Sounds like a very good install going here. Keep up the good work. less P0werLifter on 09/27/2005 20:49:07 Good Choices here guys =) I'm going to do some shopping and check those out thanks for the ideas. I 4got to mension that the w7 is SVC 3ohm. So whatever I purchase needs to pump out around 3-500watts at 4ohm or close to it :) . Should work out pretty good here hopefully, I'm thinkin about having the REM wires to the amplifiers hooked up to seperate Toggle Switches to turn on/off the amplifiers when i want to just have solid kick bass or deep lows from the 15. Ideas? Comments? For those of you that remember the last install of mine, this one should be more tricked out. Got some wicked plans circulating in my head for the next one haha. PS. Good to see ya Swez, Missed everyone on the board =). Time to go back to tinkering with my BassBox Pro program for optimum enclosure/driver performance =) -PL swez on 09/28/2005 09:02:35 Sounds like fun here PL! If you want to add more4 than 2 amps of the HU REM trigger wire, it may be well advised to look at the current draw each amp REM needs. Most HU's can provide 250-300 mA of current at best. If your system demands more than that, consider a relay off the HU REM line and a separate power line to amps. You can also use switched REM lines to any or all amps used. If you go to a remote switch, be sure to fuse it with 0.5-1.0A inline fuses. I like the swiches with lights on them. That way, you know when the switch is enabled. (it will illuminate) Swez P0werLifter on 09/28/2005 12:13:33 Already ahead of ya Swez :) With the current setup I have already installed a relay for the REM's due to the fact that there are more than 2. Ive got one 2 for the amps, then 1 more for the Audio Control Epic-160 I have in the consol =) . Any certain type of switch I should buy? I like your idea of the lighted switch. Where can I buy these? Orchard? Home Depot? Radio Shack? -PL swez on 09/28/2005 19:28:10 Well played ol man! Lighted switches can be found in many styles and colors at most any good autoparts stores, JC Whitney or other online electronic component sources. (Radio Shack or Parts Express) 12 volt lamp here OK. Just note you will have 2 main circuits for a lighted switch. The actual switch itself is only for the REM power lead. (make /break connection) The other section of the switch, needs power to one lead and a ground for the lamp to operate. Easy to do though, compared to what you know now. http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&SO=2&&DID=7&CATID=41&ObjectGroup_ID=502 Good luck!
