had a customer come in today with a 1963 Volkswagen Kharmen Ghea, in my opinion, one of the coolest cars ever built. well, she wanted an alarm installed, problem is the car has a 6V electrical system instead of 12v, which if course won't work. anybody had any experience with a 6V alarm system?? would a motorcycle alarm work?? any help would be appreciated -UK Replies (3) ttocs on 09/25/2005 01:40:06 Love the Ghea's, never got to work on one. It shouldn't matter if it is for a bike or not, although I doubt it has door sensors....... UKinstaller on 09/25/2005 10:20:52 the car doesn't have working door triggers to begin with, so i betcha it would work. you ever done a bike alarm?? -UK swez on 09/25/2005 10:52:48 Am wondering if you can use a DC/DC convertor that kicks up the 6 volt supply to the needed 12 volts for the circuits you will need to install??? Also, most electronic components work at lower voltages then 12. (3-5 volts is pretty common) They have to be managed by a power supply and computer chips that distribute the proper voltage to each device. I wonder if contacting the tech at the alarm system company you guys use, would net some minor modifications (that you can do) to a standard unit, in order to work off a 6 vollt supply source. Give em a hollar and see what info they can provide. Good luck on this one, Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
