I need some help with a basic stereo installation, replacing a factory stereo in a 1990 Buick Century. I have the stereo which came with some wires, and a wiring harness. I don't know what the wiring harness is for. This is my first install, and I need help on where to get started. Do I cut the factory wires and wire the harness to it? Please help, im very confused. Replies (2) compvr15s on 07/21/2003 22:15:08 if the wiring harness is for that specific car, you will not need to cut your factory wires, if it isnot for your car then i suggest that you get one. it allows you to just unplug the wire cluster from the stock unit and plug it into the wiring harness, then you need to connect the wires from the wire harness to plug that come out of the head unit your putting in. .just use the barrel connectors and crimp the wires together. i think most wire harness' are labeled maybe not. and you should be able to figure out which wires goto which wires. good luck, if you need more help just ask, im sure everybody can help you. make sure your wires are connected well, i think some ppl recommend soddering the wires and shrink raping the wire for a better connection, ttocs on 07/22/2003 11:20:56 it should be as easy as connecting red to red, yellow to yellow, ect. You may have a dimmer wire on your deck(orange), if not then just insulate the one comming off of the factory hrns. Do you have the factory radio out yet? I cannot remember the dash on those....
