http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=141 here is a site from JL that talks about series and parallel wiring....you have to be sure that yourr amp is satble with the ohms you run it at (if you run a 4ohm stable amp at 2 or 1 ohms you can damage or kill your amp.....as for the thum i dont really know if i was guessing it sounds like you amp is turning on and off from loose wiring but that is just a guess

probably due to the equipment. Welcome to the board, give us a list of all the equipment that you have put in the car and maybe we can help. The more you help us the more we can help you.........

The thud at shut off, is your amp unloading it's power storage devices. (filter caps) What make and model # is the amp used for your subs?

its a Bazooka ela300 amp running 2 10" MTX subs, speakers are wired individually directly to the amp.,pioneer head unit.
also, I was thinking of buying a MTX420 4 channel amp,can this this amp power the two subs and the four door speakers???thanks again for the all the help.

Hummm, cannot find any specs on a 420 series amp from MTX. Is it a pretty old one? Can you check that model # for accuracy?

The RT 404 is a modest 4 channel and not suited for subs very well along with powering 4 speakers too. The Thunder 3404 can deliver 50 x 4 watts RMS to a 4 ohm load. (100 Wrms x 4 @ 2 ohms) Bridged, you get 200 x 2 Wrms @ 4 ohms. Can be used to power 4 speakers, but will not have fade control. Can also power subs off the rear channels whenm bridged. However, your subs need to be 8 ohm or 4+4 Dual coil subs.

Tell ya what, instead of hunting blindly here, give us an idea of what you want in your system in terms of power, quality and price range. With that, we can give you several options and packages to consider. Think in terms of... "When I am finished, this is what kind of sound system I am shooting for".
