i have a few questions about putting a system in my 03 cavalier: i am planning on putting in a pioneer 960 deck, 6 ch. (55x4 and 90x2) custic amp, 2 ch (400x2) eclpis amp, and 2 JL (3.2) 10's....all i have right now is the amps....factory speakers are 6x4's in the doors and 6x9's in the rear Problems: 1. i am having problems finding mids and highs that can handle the power of the 55x4 and 90x2 2.i have 2 extra outputs to use off the one amp and dont know where i can put extra speakes 3. can i run something like 6.5" speakers instead of the 4x6's 4. is the airbag really hooked up to the radio 5. if there is something i have for got please give me any advice you can.......thank you very much Replies (5) ttocs on 09/8/2005 08:48:35 the 4 x 6's are probably small enough to run off of just the deck with a bass blocker inline. I really wouldn't waste an amp on them, you will not get much more out of them. Gm has multiplexed a few circuits through the radios on the new cars including airbag, door chimes and such. UK will be more up to date on your car.... UKinstaller on 09/8/2005 21:14:37 ah yes, the chevy cavalier. one of my favorite cars to put cd players in. a couple features are ran through the head unit of the newer cavaliers, starting in like 2000 or 2001. in order to add a head unit to that car, you need a part made by Metra called the GMRC-01. it integrates any problems you might face from removing the radio and adding an aftermarket deck. it costs about $100, but it's well worth it. 1) it prevents any problems from using a new HU 2) the factory radio does not use a positive ignition wire to turn on the head unit. if you upgrade the deck, you have to run a new wire from the ignition harness which isn't that fun. if you buy a GMRC-01, it comes with an ignition wire hookup fixing that problem. 3) it comes with a speaker for a door chime, so you don't lose your door chime from removing the factory deck. bottom line is, get it!! you'll need it. you should be able to get one at any car audio shop. as far as your amps go, you can run some good components off the 90x2 channels of your 6 channel amp. then just run some real powerful 6x9's (100w+) bridged off your 4 channel amp into 2 rear channels. this could put you in place to have some SCREAMING highs. don't worry about adding any more than 4 speakers in your car, you will NOT need them. i like JL Audio components myself. they rock. if you want to be a true baller like myself, don't run any rear speakers. they alter the imaging in your car in a negative way when you want to have a nice sounding system. when it comes time to replace the head unit, get ready for some real fun. absolutely everything from the left side of the dash to the passenger door has to be removed to get a head unit in there. there are a total of about 20 screws. i have done it at least 20 times so i can walk you through it. it's not that bad, just time consuming. with the proper tools you can handle it. hope this helps. -UK ralter649 on 09/9/2005 00:29:55 i have on more question....my 6 ch. amp is 2ohm stable ...do you know for any companies that make mids and highs that are 2ohms instead of 4 ohms? ttocs on 09/9/2005 08:58:24 the dash insn't too bad, I can have one out in 15 min. ryan2 on 09/13/2005 12:23:25 Hi there ralter. I've owed a 97 cavalier and currently have an 04 cavalier. I recommend the GM harness i think i got mine for around $80. Easy to hook up and everything. Also the dash comes apart very easy. May take you alittle bet longer the first time through but soon you'll be able to take it apart under 10min. Also i would be able to help you through that part as well. I suggest instead of using 4x6's to get a set of compenents like you stated above. Im using 6.5's right now but you might want to go with 5.25 because its avery tight space from the window to the door. The cone almost hits the door and on one side I cant roll down my widow all the way or it covers the magnet. That was in my 97 anyway havent installe them in the 04 yet. Also we put some 5.25 in my friends 03 with no problems. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
