Hello, I bought a new deck and speakers from crutchfield. I installed it in a 95 civic dx. I am using a DXZ545MP HU. The problem I am having is that the HU only lasts about 30 mins before I lose sound. The HU still powers up but the sound is gone. double checked all the wires and they seem to all be correct. I opted to soldier connections instead of using cheap crimp on connections. What I need help with is how to troubleshoot this problems, the tech support at crutchfield is crap. I am going to be checking the ohm's of the news speakers, securing a better ground, and adding an inline fuses to see if I can blow a fuse instead of the deck. The HU usually plays fine at really low volume, but when ever I turn it up it seems to blow/short when I play it at higher lvl's. Another thing that is bugging me is that I get some distortion even at low lvl's. One song will sound fine no distortion, the next song will have tunz of distortion. ket setup I have. I need some help on things I can check to help clear up this problem.

but i tryed another hu and all speacker work fine what could it be is there something inside i need to look at

what kind of speakers are in the car? How did you insulate the connections after soldering?

Where is the HU grounded at the moment? A dedicated ground on Aftermarket HU's is recommended. (floor pan or fire wall, bare metal plz.)

Also, this one reads like a shorted speaker connection or very low impedence problem. You can probe each speaker line set with an ohmeter. However, one wire will need to be removed from the HU harness to obtain accurate readings.

There's an FAQ on how to install HU's properly. Here's the link:
