Ok I installed some speakers and a deck in my car a few months back, and they worked fine... The rear 6x9's are around 200watts RMS, and the fronts are like 150rms... the deck I have is kinda crappy, it is just a koss mp3/cd deck with 54/4 watts and has a motion flip face, with 2 sets of pre outs, So I took it to futureshop to install the following, Road Thunder Subwoofer 12" http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/roadThunder.cfm and the amp, Road Thunder 202 2 channel amp. http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/roadThunder202.cfm So they are now hooked up, and whne I turn on the deck I can hear sound pop in the rear 6x9s so there is power goin to them, but when the music starts all the goes is the subwoofer... it pounds but there is no sound coming from my speakers... does anyone know how I can fix this... futureshop is dumb and the ppl are like 16 years old that do not know anything and they will not help me... Thanks Timothy Rushton here is the link to the koss deck http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443279978&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303517505&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303517506&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303517522&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=1408474396669467&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396669467&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474396670271&bmUID=1124658799585 Replies (10) swez on 08/21/2005 18:42:58 Bite my tongue for saying this... but it would be best to take it back to the shop where they installed your amp & subs and let them deal with it. Especially if you got a warrantee with the install. Speak to the shop Mgr., and give him all the details you just gave here. If he is worth his salt, he'll make sure it's done to your satisfaction this time. The HU has 2 sets of preamp RCA outputs you say... did they even go that route or just tap off the rear speakers and maybe used a cheap Line out Convertor (LOC) here? That could explain the lack of rear speaker output??? What you want here, are RCA lines from the HU, back to the amp for signal feed. If they used rear speaker feeds and an LOC, that may be the root of your problems. Finally, have you checked the rear speaker fade control on the HU. It is possible that the fade is set mostly to the front speakers. A simple thing to check, before you go back to the shop. Swez zeldagadian on 08/21/2005 18:47:37 They did use rca cables, and they are set into the rear pre out, and I am not getting sound from either the front and the rear, and I am getting power because when I turn on the deck the rear speakers make a pop sound... futureshop is claiming that it is my deck, and that i need a new one, however the speakers worked fine whne i briought it in... and now when i went to pick it up they said it doesn;t... Victor on 08/21/2005 19:30:12 Thats the longest post i have ever seen on CK...lol zeldagadian on 08/21/2005 19:30:50 neone ttocs on 08/21/2005 20:12:06 check ALL connections and make sure that there are no shorst, bare wires showing, ect. But swez is right. They should have done a pre, and post installation checklist showing that everything worked comming in and out. Do they? ryan2 on 08/22/2005 10:39:05 Yes swez is right you shouldnt have to fix the problem they created since you paid them to install it. If you cant get through them demand to speak to the manager. and If that doesnt work file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) that should get there attention hopefully. Tinker18 on 08/25/2005 16:34:08 I had this same exact problem when I had my 93' chevy. You, or the shop, need to check the wires to the 6x9's thouroghly. also, check the deck wires around the harness. If a stray peice of wire is out and is touching any bare metal on the speaker frame or another wire, or on the deck mounting hardware, your highs will ground out and will not play. Figured this out in my old truck after looking for the problem for 3 weeks, and tearing my whole system out and reinstalling it. -TINK zeldagadian on 08/27/2005 02:38:41 Thanks, ok here is the update... I purchased a new deck.... because my other one was messed, and FS was claiming that it was the deck and no power was coming from the deck... anyways... it turned out that after installing the new deck... same situation, subs worked but no audio from speakers... any of them. So I brought in back in and they looked at it for 3 min, then they removed the tape I had on one the pos, and neg front L speaker wire... the white and white with black stripe wire... I think it is the front L speaker. Anyways when they did that all of a sudden the sound worked perfectly, then they taped it and put the deck back in, I got in the car, and wam it didn;t work, they think it is a wire coming from the inside of my car... or something... is that possible, could it be a cracked speaker wire... would that knock out all of the speakers from making any sound... which wire could the problem be, I am guessing it was just coincidence that they removed the tape, and they must of knocked a wire that was loose then it worked then knocked it out again... I have been messing around with the wires ever since and found nothing... infact I accidently blew the fuse I am guessing from the deck, because now I can not get the deck to power on... lol it must be the fuse and from me messing with the wires while the batt is still connected lol.... anywho... what do you think now??? Thanks :) ttocs on 08/27/2005 09:46:27 when the output of the amp is shorted only two things will happen, the amp will blow or go into protection. It only takes one wire to short out. If it didn't happen before the installation of the subs I would be cryin a fit in there. They told you the deck was bad. sold ya a new one and still have FAILED to get it working for you? Go back and have it fixed, if they don't find a new shop. It worked when you brought it in and has not since they touched it................................. That is THEIR liability...... swez on 08/28/2005 11:21:00 Agreed.. if they got it to work in the shop, then the HU is probably fine. But, wiring may be the bigger problem. TAPE? (as in electrical tape?) We don't recommend tape over bare wires. Butt crimp connectors are fine. Soldering and shrink tubing are even better. Tape is OK to bundle wires for a clean harness, but not to join wires. Take it back and make sure it is all working properly before you leave the shop this time!
