Hi. I have bought a SONY Car Stereo and want to install it myself. I just can seem to get any power to the Stereo. I have two cables directly from the battery + and - but the Stereo has many more cables. I have tried hooking up battery + with the red, and battery - with black. No reaction...Could there be some other wire that is supposed to be used for power...the blue, yellow..?? I donīt know, and i dontīwant to ruin my Stereo.. There is a yellow wire that you need to connect to the constant 12 volt source (+ battery). The black wire to the negative is correct. The red wire that you mentioned is normally connected to the ignition wire that would be in the factory wiring harness. This wire has no power when the car is off, and gets power when the ignition is on. This is what turns the stereo on and off with the car. You can find this ignition wire by using a 12 volt tester and testing each wire in the factory wiring harness when the ignition is on and off. If you cannot find this wire, or don't wish to try, you can connect the red wire along with the yellow wire to the + battery wire. You will just have to turn the stereo on and off yourself (not too big of a deal). As far as the blue wire, that is the remote turn on wire for extra amplifiers, if you decide to add them. Hope this helps. Good luck! -Ian- frodi on 08/10/2005 12:04:53 Hi Ian........Thanks a lot for the help..Got my stereo up and running instantly. :) I donīt bother to use the ignigtion ON/OFF, so i just mix the red and yellow, and connected them to the power source. Also, it was, apparently, important which way the - + were connected.. first got power on when power ran from the - battery to the + Red and yellow. and battery + to ground (black)stereo. Nothin happend the other way around... Anyway, donīt know if you understand what i am saying, because i am an absolute novice in this :) Again, a million thanks! Frodi, Denmark Crum on 08/10/2005 13:23:21 Good job, Frodi. One word of warning though. By connecting the red and yellow wires to your battery, your radio will not turn off unless you physically turn off the radio (it won't turn off automatically when you turn off your car). Just use care to ensure that you don't drain your battery by leaving your radio on over night. Crum cybersailor420 on 08/11/2005 10:59:02 I'm glad I could help you. And Swez is right, I have killed my battery before when I used to wire my deck straight to the battery. -Ian- Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
