can i put 2 15's and 2 12's in a car or is it not a good idea i seriously wanna know thank u Replies (8) ttocs on 08/9/2005 07:59:39 you can run into alot of cancelation issues, but that does not mean it cannot be done. Normally when you mix sizes it is more like 8's and 12 er 15's to get the punchyness of the 8's, and the lowes of the 12/15. swez on 08/9/2005 08:40:43 Agreed! The 15's are best at handling deep bass and depending on the model you choose and enclosure design, should be plenty of deep bass available in a pair of 15's. What subs and amp are you planning to run here? If you want more punch in upper bass region, a set of 8's or 10's in a smaller sealed enclosure will deliver that as well. The crossover settings on each amp that power your woofers, make all the difference. Say more about what you have now and wish to do in the future. With that info, we can offer some ideas that work. Swez ssallstar598 on 08/12/2005 16:06:18 yes im planning on running 2 12 kicker CVRs 4 ohm DVC and 2 8 Resonant Engineering REs off of a JBL 600.1 getting a 2 ohm load achieving a little more than 150 per woofer due to the efficiency of the JBL 600.1 just have to wait for the REs.... sent the money order out today cant wait to get them! i have been wanting a pair for a LONG time but REs line is always busy and take 4 ever to answer emails.... compvr15s on 08/12/2005 20:40:52 i dont think you are going to be very happy with the outcome here, the subs will be playing the same freqs so a size variation isnt going to matter much. why not just stick with the 2 12s and give each 300 watts of good pure power, cvrs are very spl orientated. not the greatest sq at high output... if you were using 2 amps or even a 2 channel amp, 12s on one channel, 8s on the other channel this would be ok, you can adjust for each set of subs.... with this one channel amp, you are going to get the exact same out of each sub. only difference is going to be the size of the sub and the sq... if it was me id stay with one set or the other and save the money, prolly not going to be a big difference here bteddyb on 08/15/2005 22:46:41 I have a Master Craft boat that I have 2 12's in. I was wondering if you can run a single voice coil sub along with a dual voice coil sub. I dont think Im going to get the maximum out of the DVC ran with the svc. Anybody have any advice? ttocs on 08/16/2005 00:13:17 depends on the amp, see your other post.. swez on 08/16/2005 11:15:15 CompVR 12's and a pair of RE 8's off the same amp... Not a good plan for reasons noted above. If you want to run a pair of RE 8's as MB drivers, great idea... but a 2nd amp is needed for them as they will need a different crossover range and less power too. FYI: Subs are best from 30 Hz - 80 Hz. MB is great above 60 Hz and up to about 500 Hz. You can run the subs below 80 Hz if you like. (50,60 or 80 Hz.) But you'll want a bandpass filter network on the RE 8's. The crossover points on sub and MB should be pretty steep rolloffs too. (12-18dB/octave) This will avoid most cancellation issues as each kit (12's & 8's) have their own distinct frequency ranges. The areas where they overlap, are where cancellations will be present. BTB, When running dual speakers (subs) it is best to used a matched pair. If they are different brands or configurations, (DVC/SVC mix) power to each sub will not be equal unless you use a 2 channel amp, (1 chnnel per sub) and carefully match output power to each sub. If your DVC is a 4+4 version, you can do a 2 or 4 ohm load to channel A. The SVC is generally a 4 ohm coil. Running that one off channel B, you will get 50% less amping power to the SVC sub. Tough on some amps to run them this way as the power supply to each channel will not be well balanced. In short, not recommended. Swez MrBrownstone on 08/17/2005 13:53:42 If you use 8" midbass drivers and 15" subwoofers, you'd be better off sending the sub 50Hz to the 15s and the 50 - 200 to the 8" woofers. Of course, the 8s need to be in front as there's too much midbass there and if in the rear of the vehicle, it'd sound awkward. As far as having 8s and say 15s doing the same frequencies, the 15s would so heavily outweigh the 8s, they'd just be there 'farting in the wind' and not really contributing any way.
