It has cooled off a bit and was only 101 at 5 yesterday so my room mate and I put in the new interior. I bought leather buckets and a consol from a same year explorer. Now that I have everything in I can see that I can make enough space for the 10W7. Box is gonna be a pain but, its all kind of a pain.... Hopefully in the comming weeks I will be feeling well enough and the weather will hold out so I can start the kicks, mid enclosures, and eventually the amp rack........ Replies (20) swez on 08/5/2005 10:54:44 Now I see why you were holding off on this project. Seems like a late Fall/Winter install would be a lot more comfortable? Hey, have you been in touch with Terry McDonald of late? I have lost track of him and wondering how he's coming along these days? Any inputs? Swez ttocs on 08/5/2005 14:46:40 I went through palm springs last week on the way back from san diego and wondered the same, I have not heard much for a long time..... I made a template for the kick panels and bought a dremel and some monster pack of accesories for it. It has a circle cutting jig so I think it has everthing I need.... Might start on them tonight, if I feel like sweating........ Tinker18 on 08/5/2005 17:27:29 101? wow..thats winter in texas. -tink ttocs on 08/6/2005 09:30:08 like I said, its been cooling off lately, down from 115 last week. I started cutting some of the panels last night and now I am waiting till a half way desent hour to fire the power tools back up to not upset the neighbors. swez on 08/6/2005 13:09:38 Wise man! ttocs on 08/6/2005 19:01:42 that was 6:30am my time, the home owners association landscapers came out about 7:30 with full power tools and tree shredder, I didn't see what harm at that point my dremel and jig saw would do. It was a delightfull 85 too, I think they are out there at that hour for a reason. I cut the panel that will hold the 4" and 1" diamond componants for the kicks, fits like a glove. I also got the router bits I will need to re-create that shape as I will need a total of 4, 2 to mount the speakers to, 2 for the grills. After cutting I took a look to see how then could fit, and it was no suprise that the parking brake will be in the way, gonna have to figure a way around that.... Anyone know where to get a linear actuator cheap? danielm87 on 08/6/2005 22:00:29 here in east tennessee, we got ALLLLLL the way up to 92degrees the other day, and everyone outside quit working and waited for it to cool off. I was doing landscaping, i quit until 7:00PM and it cooled down a bit. 101degrees.. everyone in tennessee would move to alaska ttocs on 08/7/2005 06:42:51 101 is a good day. It was abnormal to be 85 the other day as we have been getting some rain lately. It does not get much below 90 in the summer..... swez on 08/7/2005 10:13:05 Weather in the Midwest has been unusually warm and sticky this summer. After 2 mild/wet summers in previous years, this one seems bent on making up the difference. Ttocs, you grew up in IN right? Am sure you remember some pretty sultry, (hot/humid) periods in July & August. How does the high heat (but low humidity) in AZ compare to what you experienced back in IN? Swez ttocs on 08/7/2005 13:34:52 the humidity has been reminding me of indiana lately.. It is actually not to bad over 100 with low himidity, if you can get out of the sun here.... if I had to choose, I already made my choice, couldn't imagine going back now.......... compvr15s on 08/8/2005 00:02:02 wow i was in tenn 2 times in the last 2 months and both times we went there it was crazy hott. dunno if it was the humidity or what but the temps were near the same in central illinois and i couldnt even stand going outside in tenn.... as soon as i hit the outside i started to sweat, it was crazy ttocs on 08/8/2005 08:37:17 when your sweat does nothing but make ya mad, that is the humidity. Hear your sweat actually cools you rather the making you cuss... After living in Indiana for all 25 of my years I didn't know it was supposed to do that........ swez on 08/8/2005 11:14:29 Was working on my ride last night too. Started at 8:00 PM and temp was a tad over 80 degrees, but the humidity climbed steadily as it got dark. (typical pattern here of late) I was sweating like crazy and had to keep a face wiping towel handy. (sweat stings the eyes huh) Anyway, had to clean out the air intakes and blower motor chamber as my air flow for A/C and heater were not doing so well. Once I removed the stabilizer cross bar and engine lift brackets, it was pretty smooth going. Then, flushed the heck out of the air chamber with "Simple Green" and hot water. Yeah, the carpets inside got a little wet, but the shop vac too care of that in short order. Now, the blower is putting out plenty of air flow again and a nice smell from the green cleaner as well. Changed oil and was done and ready for a cool one after 10:30 PM. Ahhh, A/C is pumping out nice cool air again and plenty of air flow too. Time well spent! The scratches and scrapes will heal over in a few days. Man, it was a tight fit at the firewall until I removed the crossbar and engine lift brackets. Thought I could get by w/o removing them...but NOOOOOO way! The blower motor "will not" come out of it's housing without removing those brackets and braces. Take note all you Buick LeSabre owners. This is a must do step, if you need to remove the blower at any time. Swez PS The beer was good and cold as I sat back and cleaned up while listening to Art Bell on Coast to Coast. Very disturbing program last night. Talked about "Global Warming" trends and solar flares on the sun going down right now. If these guys are right, we are going to have some very crazy and perhaps dangerous weather patterns in the coming months and years. ttocs on 08/8/2005 11:59:48 talking about strange weather patterns, it is raining as I type. Been wetter then normal in the desert this year. Yoy don't have to tell me how bad sweat stings your eyes, but at least your hair catches most of it. ttocs on 08/10/2005 14:52:32 It is only 92 out so I am taking advantage of it and getting some more done. I mounted an overhead consol from an explorer this morning. It required some cutting on the headliner, as well as some small cuts in the moutning above it. It is mounted now but not yet wired. When its done it will tell me direction, time and temp. While searching for the wiring schematic I came across a site that explains the temp sensor. this person wired in a switch and an extra sensor so that he could tell the temp inside the truck too. I am going to use it to tell amp temp however by mounting the thermistor on the amp heat sink. I also smoothed out the edges on the piece I made for my kick panels. I need to make some copies of it for drivers and passenger side, and for the grills. I set up my router on my workbench so I can use it as a router table. Going to go copy that piece shortly when I am done with my break........... swez on 08/10/2005 20:22:04 In spite of the heat, sounds like you are making very good progress here. Ever try wearing one of those cotton "skull caps" that bikers wear to keep sweat out of your eyes? Or a head band that catches the sweat, before it gets to your eyes. (the kind BB players wear at time) This and perhaps wrist bands will help. I used to play a lot of racquette ball and needed both to keep the sweat out of my eyes. They work well. Holy sweat Batman! Swez ttocs on 08/11/2005 01:54:02 I have a couple of those caps for when i am riding. It is just so much cooler with nothing on top.... Like I said I took advantage of the cool 95 degrees and was busy in the garage till almost 1. I needed a couple of things so I took a break and ran some errends. I ended up finishing the baffles and the grill covers that the kicks will mount to. They came out good enough for me considering what I was working with. I took pics of everything as I did it so I can post pics of how to..... I also integrated my cellphone into the consol and used a little bondo to make everything look like it belongs, just needs paint now..... Tommorow I think I will work on the 6.5's mounting and enclusure, shouldn't be too bad and it is supposed to be nice weather again. ttocs on 08/11/2005 14:17:57 11 pm suns out, callin it quits, it'll be 100 shortly........ I wired the overhead consol and got it working, I need to get a 10k thermistor so the temp will work, and calibrate it so the compass will also. I also ran an additional set of wires for the additional thermistor so I can monitor amp temperature from the stock location. Started and finished the baffles for the 6.5's in the door. The router table is working great and by using the old stock speaker, and the grill for the 6.5, I was able to make 2 perfect baffles(impressed myself!)... I also mounted one of the the "enclosures"(tupperware) to one of the baffles. I'll use a thin bead of silicone to seal between the baffle and enclosure, and the some dynamat extreme on both sides to sturdy it up... I have been taking pics all along the way, maybe today I'll go sign up at carsound and post them. Its a good example of what a do-it-yourselfer can do out of a garage with a few of the right tools...... Crum on 08/11/2005 14:55:59 Ttocs Please post pictures - sounds like a great project. I'm really interested to see how you will eventually get the 10W7 installed. Crum ttocs on 08/12/2005 11:50:45 still under construction and remember it is from a garage. I have never really gotten into the custom relm that I am wanting to go into for this system. I have seen it all done a bunch but never actually done it. If you can read between the lines that means I am makin it up as I go........ I have built big systems but always with straight lines, looking to put some curves in this time. I have not even started the hard part yet...... Put the bed rails on this morning. its the only shiney part on the truck so I guess I will have to clean it now. I also got the visor monitors is yesterday. I found a set from an explorer but they were in tan, my interior is grey. I am waiting for the paint/dye to dry and then I will put them in, all the wiring is done. I went with black rather then try to match the grey. They will go well with the new overhead consol. I started my cardomain page so you can follow if you want, seems like I am talking to myself for the most part... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2081149 Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
