Some of you know Ol Swez is hooked on fly fishing this year. Came a cross this little ditty for your viewing pleasure. A little comic relief on a slow week in late July.. A woman goes into Cabela's to buy a fly rod and reel for her son. She does not know which one to get so she just grabs one and heads to the register. There is a Cabela's associate standing at the register with dark shades on. She says. "Excuse me Sir.... can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?" He says "Ma'am, I'm blind, but if you drop it on the counter I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound that it makes." She did not believe him but dropped it on the counter anyway. He said, "That's a 8' 6" high modulus Cabela's Graphite 4-weight rod with a Disc Drag Graphite Fly Reel and matching fly line combo outfit. It's a good all around rod and reel, and that is $49.95. We will even give you a free fly fishing DVD with that outfit. She say's "That is just amazing that you can tell all that just from the sound of the rod and reel dropping on the counter. I think that is exactly what I am looking for, so I will take it." As he walks behind the counter to the register, she bends over to get her purse and farts. At first she is embarrased but the realizes that there is no way he could tell it was her . Being blind he could not have known she was the only person around. He rings up the sale and says, "That will be 63.00." She says, "But you said the rod, reel and line was only 49.95!" He say's, "Yes Ma'am, the combo outfit is $49.95. The duck call is $ 9.00 and the catfish stink bait is $2.50 plus tax. Thanks for shopping at Cabela's! Keep it up Funny guy :-) Victor on 08/2/2005 15:33:59 Mr. B. .. whats ur email add.. wanna send you a funny song.. lol.. Swez must already be laughing .. hehehe.. "HO HO HO...".... hehehehe swez on 08/2/2005 18:23:47 Finally, acknowledgements from my peers and yes, Mr. B. will love "Ho Ho"... and it's not what ya think either. Speaking of fishing, bagged a beautiful 18" Smallmouth bass last night at the river. The Hex hatch was on and they were feeding good. Picked out my spot and harrassed it with several poppers and floating flies... no luck. Switched to a larger white bodied streamer and 2nd cast in the sweet spot... "Whammo - FISH ON" and she's a doozy. A 5+ minute fight ensued. This hungry charger put all he had on me. Crossed the river a few trips, a few deep dives for cover in the log jam and a few arial manuvers too. All to no avail. I had him hooked, had him solid. He had my drag singing like a chain saw buzzing. Results: A nice, fat bronze colored "Smallie". A bit over 18" in length, a tad over 3 pounds. Not a trophy size fish for many states. But for this region of water, a fine catch. Only one problem.. he mangled the nook on that #6 streamer. After releasing him back to fatten up, noticed the hook and barb were gone! The fly is resting well in the "to be repaired bin" of my tackle pouch. The bass was returned unharmed and ready to fight another day. Guess I'll not reach my goal as a Master Baiter this year... but will settle happily for an above average 1st season on a fly rod. This is a great sport and past time. Out in nature, peaceful surroundings, no cell phones, no fax machines, no e-mails and no office people to fight with. This has been one of the best summer fun packages I have ever had. Pack the waders, a #6 rod & reel set, my old buddy fishing vest, a few cold water bottles and some cigars. That my friends, is called living large, on a $10.00 bill. Try it, ya might get hooked too. Swez GRIN Tinker18 on 08/2/2005 23:43:42 My dad burned me out on fishing so much when I was younger, every weekend(no lie) but if you want to delve into the subject of hunting, now that is a sport i love, but only, if you eat whatever you kill. -TINK swez on 08/3/2005 09:52:13 Tink, Have not tried hunting with anything more than a camera to date. Yes, we have a tremedous overpopulation of White Tailed deer in MI. The new bag limits have been increased for 2005 as well. See many deer (road kill) on the highways and byways I travel on fishing outings of late. Can hunt all the rabbits I want here in town though. I bagged one the other night with a 4000 pound Buick. It bolted out into a sidestreet, in a very dark area. No time to take evasive manuvers either. Clipped it good in the mid-body, but it was not dead.... had to return for a "put it out of it's misery" 2nd run. Got the job done and the birds had a field day with remains, the next day. I should have packed it up and field dressed it for body hair (hare) to tie new flies. Bummer, was not thinking I guess... was bummed out that I took a life and could not use it for food. I really dislike making road kills! They bother me for days, when it happens. Guess I am not much of a hunter as well. How does one field dress a rabbit anyway? Swez MrBrownstone on 08/3/2005 15:38:09 I haven't been fishing since 1997. Danged Car audio project turned into a business...then some other things got in the way...all of a sudden snuggling up to some fish bait didn't appeal to me anymore. I kinda miss outsmarting a small scale creature, just haven't taken the time. My master baiting is not reserved to....err, wait, a public forum. Victor send it to brianbanish@excite.com I don't check it every day, but do periodically. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
