Since i sold my 97 Cavalier about 2 months ago i had to take everything out (12" Brahma, JBL amp, CDT components). Now I am almost ready to put everythign in my new car 04 Cavalier.

Im making 2 new boxes for my sub. For the 12" Brahma i currently have the pieces all cut to make a 1.5cuft afterdisplacement sealed box. Sometime in the future i will be making a 3Cuft after displacement ported box tuned to 25hz.
I will be pushing it with my JBL 1200.1 wired in 4ohm so its recieving 400+ wRMS. I've bought all new wiring because 2 guages is hard to fit in the amp terminals so I got Knukonceptz 4gauge wiring.
I bought a new battery Duralast 700CCA with side and top posts. Couldnt fit a Optima Yellow top in unfortanetly. I wanted a dual post so i can put the factory wiring on the side and amp and upgraded wiring on top. With the leftover 2gauge i'll use it to do the "Big 3".
As of right now i will not be putting in my CDT Cl-61a's 6.5" because i want to either build kickpanels or redo my door some how (either whole door or drill a whole in to mount speakers) since in my 97 it was a very tight fit and not alot of room for excursion. Then I will be able to amp them.
And finally I have my Alpine 9851 installed. I really dont like it. I didnt want any with glide touch and I couldnt get ahold of a 9835 so i got this one. Hopefully next years models are nice so i can get a high end model.
Thats it for now so i'll keep you updated.

sounds like a good setup, good to hear someone putting some quality components in their sound system.

how many watts RMS is the brahma sub you have?? i'm sure 400w will pound it, but isn't the JBL 1200.1 1 ohm stable?? i had trouble running a 600.1 at 1 ohm that claimed to be stable, but i haven't had problems with the 1200.1

just curious.

Yea its 1 ohm stable. I ran it fine at 1 ohms before on the Brahma. But It took alot out of my electrical system. So i asked adire what size box would push it to its max with 400+wRMS from my JBL and they gave me that size.

I did the "Big 3" today. Wasnt to hard to do. But when i upgrade the alt its going to be a pain. Theres not alot of room.
Tomorrow i will put the box together. Maybe tonight i'll run my power, rca, and remote wire. I cant wait to get it all in again so i can listen to it.

The box is built and everythings installed and working. I will put pics up tomorrow after work if i remember(i'll give you my cardomain thing). I made a few mistakes on the box and was able to correct them. But i didnt measure my height right for the trunk. So i have it laying on its back with the sub firing at the 6x9s which i will have to uninstall before i blow them(so now i just have fader all the way to the front). It took me from about 2:30 - 9 to finish everything. I dont have the gains set properly yet just from my old setup but it sounds awesome. It rattles the cr*p out of my trunk which i dont like cuz at first i thought the sub was distorting. But iam very pleased.

Also the Big 3 is helping great. I have absolutly no light dimming at all so im happy.

I took my 6x9s out today. I have everythign tuned now and it sounds good. But what is weird is that if i have everything rolled up in my car and turn it up and stand outside my car there are no rattles and i cant hear it (which is good). But on my other car i was able to hear rattles and the bass even with dynamat in it. Is this because i have my sub facing the rear deck?

that may be some of it but your car is 7 years newer, seals are better, everything is just newer. if you can try to get it to face the rear of the trunk im sure you will get higer output.... thats always good tho that ya cant hear it from outside, thats how my grand prix was, until i rolled the windows down then all hell broke loose lol... good luck on finishing the install, would like to check some pix if ya get time.

If your sub box is too tall to fit under the parcel shelf, (rear decking) try sliding the box back toward the rear of the car, mid-trunk and face the sub so it fires toward the rear bumper. If you have enough clearance for the trunk to close, bet the bass will sound fuller and deeper this way.

If that works better, then reinstall your 6x9's and cover the rear of speakers with some kind of enclosure. (speaker baffles) This will help protect the x9's from heavy bass waves and if you have a good air seal, the x9's will sound great down to 80 Hz., as well. Can use some polyfill in the x9 enclosure also. A 0.15 cf (or a tad larger) enclosure is darn near a perfect match for most x9's. If ya go a bit smaller, a few 1" holes for air porting will work too... just be sure to use adequate polyfil in them to hinder sub waves. The ports work best if they are located on the side, facing the back seats.

These will often do the job. Just make sure you know the depth needed for your x9's.

The Brahma 12 is rated at 1600 watts, but a safe bet when sealed, is about 1000 Wrms in a small (1.0 - 1.2cf) sealed box. Going much larger than that, sub can reach X-max at less RMS power.

If you have the sub wired for 4 ohms, the BP-1200.1 can deliver over 600 watts RMS to this sub at 4 ohms. (12.9 volts input rated) Not bad at all and safe for amp and most enclosure designs too.

Nice component choices here... SQL all the way!

Thats a Well planned and well executed install ryan... Great going..
