Pacifica Factory Amp with aftermarket headunit

I recently purchased an 05 Chrysler Pacifica and would like to drop in my aftermarket head unit but using the standard Chrysler wiring harness doesn't turn on the amp. Metra told me I had to have an amp bypass harness but it looks like a serious pain for the very basic installation I want. Is there any way around the amp bypass harness?

hmmm interesting problem. that's weird that the wiring harness doesn't turn on the factory amp.

if they are recommending an amp bypass harness, i would go with that. your only other option is a rewire, which is running to speaker wire to every speaker. that is a much bigger headache than using the amp bypass harness.

i'll check some of my sources tomorrow at work and get back to you, though.

does it have a remote turn on, or an amp on, on the hrns? Chrysler often will use two wires to power the amp, a posative and a negative. It just happens that the posative is the very wire that goes to the back of the deck. The deck will supply enough voltage but only enough current to turn on a relay(500 ma compared to 20-30amps needed to power the amp). I would often fix this problem by tying the remote turn on int the car into the switched ignition. The amp will come on and off with the key.

I'm not a pro installer so excuse my ignorance but I don't know what an hms is. I assume there's a relay at play here but I have no clue how to identify it.

harnes...

it sounds like we are gonna be in over you head however. You might want to check at a local shop. It is a nice new car/thing, hate to mess it up.
