Stereo Memory

Hi all,

Just had a local stereo shop install a JVC Stereo Head unit into my 2001 Honda Insight. I don't have details on the stereo with me at the moment but there is something I'm curious about.

When I turn on the car and then the stereo, the radio player always comes on at the default fm 87.4. When I set the sound quality (bass, treble, etc), it too goes back to default and I have to reset this every time I turn on the car.

Suggestions?

you've either got a bad head unit (not likely), or they wired it up wrong.

a radio needs two sources of power to turn on: a constant (memory) wire, and a switched (only on when car is on) power wire. it sounds like they are wired backwards.

take it back up to the shop and tell them to fix it and that they are jackasses for letting it leave their shop like that.

I was thinking that but it just seemed like such an obvious thing that they wouldn't let something like that happen...

I just ran back by the shop a minute ago, and were pleasant when I talked to them about it. It will be "hopefully" fixed in an hour.

Thanks for your advise and confirming my suspicions...

some installer is getting yelled at for 45 min and has 15 to fix it. I have been istalling for a while, never had a customer come back with that complaint........

ttocs - I believe you are close to the truth about that (45 / 15)

I stopped installing stereos years ago when more than 4 wires ran from the unit (power, ground, speaker, and antenna)...heh heh...

and of course, there was my 70's sound system....4 technics home audio speakers, booming out more static than music...

let us know what it was. good thing they were cool about it. some people hate admitting that "their precious, mistake free installer" could make such a simple mistake.

yea I have done lots of stupid stuff but never confused red with yellow.........

maybe he tried hardwiring it (didn't have a harness in stock or something) and got the wires backwards, because confusing yellow with red is pretty hard, unless of course the installer is colorblind.

by the way the guy said it was a local shop, not CC.
