Hey guys I just bought a new 04 chevy tahoe and need more bass than the factory system offers. I do not want to replace the bose system in it yet , so I figured the easest way to add more bass is a powered bass tube or powered sub. (I do not want to take up a buch of space in the tahoe) So I was wondering if any one has a powered sub that they like . I was hoping that there was a custom box for the tahoe but it seems that there is not one yet Replies (20) lessismorespl on 07/14/2005 20:28:35 JL Audio makes a stealth enclosure for your Tahoe, however it is not a powered sub, so you would need an amp. it comes loaded w/ a 10" W3V2 2ohm DVC wired for 4 ohms. It would not require much of an amp to drive that sub, in fact a 250/1 would be optimal for that sub. This would give you some nice bass w/out overpowering the entire system. Am not certain of the price, but I do know the Stealth enclosures can be kind of high priced, howeve rthey are made so you do not even know they are installed in the vehicle, completely hidden, and the 250/1 would not be hard to hide either. less Here are the links for the Stealth and the amp: http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/tahoe03.html# http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/2501.html Prices vary from dealer to dealer. I will check at the shop tomorrow and see how much I can get the whole set-up for. less carfreak on 07/14/2005 20:32:03 thanks I kind of like the idea if the stealth set up but was looking for a less costly solution.. BTW where did you find the JL enclosure I could not find any thing at all swez on 07/14/2005 20:32:40 Have a look at the Infinity Bass Link. It's very compact, 200 wrms Class D amp, a 10" woofer and passive radiator. A little shopping will bring the price down. Retail price is pretty high. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zUTwNLnOuQt/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=51000&I=108BASSLIN&search=infinity+%2Dharman&SearchDisplay=Infinity&wmsf=1 Swez carfreak on 07/14/2005 20:38:20 yea I saw the bass link and Have considered it but do not know what it sounds like. thats the big downfall to shopping on the net. Have you used one or heard one in use that sounded pretty good? carfreak on 07/14/2005 20:41:29 I am kind of scared to tackle putting this in my tahoe as I have never worked with any kind of advanced stuff like the onstar and stuff like this, I just wish the would have put a sub in at the factory lessismorespl on 07/14/2005 20:52:14 We sell JL Audio, so I'm very familar w/ their product line. There are other less costly solutions, it is a habit of mine to always look at the best first, then work my way down from there to fit my budget. The 250/1 runs about $250, I can probably work one thru the boss for an even $200, the Stealth enclosure will probably run about $500, give or take. Here are a few suggestions that are less costly. http://www.cardomain.com/item/KENKSCWD250 http://www.cardomain.com/item/BAZCS8A5 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_152.html http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4326.html carfreak on 07/14/2005 20:54:44 thank you UKinstaller on 07/14/2005 21:10:03 the line out converter (the device to add subs to a factory system) for the newer GM Bose systems is gonna cost you around $100. they are expensive, but get the job done. you'll need one to add a sub to the factory system. -UK lessismorespl on 07/14/2005 21:12:30 By the way, that Kenwood set-up sounds pretty good, gives a nice smooth bass, just enough to enhance a ssytem lacking in bass. It is small, easy to install, and you can probably get it installed so it would not even be noticed. less carfreak on 07/14/2005 22:17:32 thank you I was looking at the kenwood pretty hard. Ouch that lineout converter is $$$$ that the only way?? compvr15s on 07/14/2005 23:10:39 id recommed the basslink too, they also make a basslink t which has 2 passive radiators, so it will give off a lil more bass and it also has a built in amp. have heard the regualar basslink in a navigator, was very suprised, i didnt see it so i dont know whereit was located but if i had to guess from hearing it sounded like a decent pair of 12s or a single 15, its sq was more notacible than the spl but it still could wang. good luck UKinstaller on 07/14/2005 23:39:22 you can get around not using the expensive line out converter, but you have to tap into the factory bose amp, which can be kind of tricky. you'll still have to buy a regular line out converter, which is $22 at circuit city. the bose amp for your car is underneath the center console. it's hard to take apart, but doable. i would DEFINITELY use the expensive LOC and tap behind the radilo. better sound quality. but like i said you can tap in before the amplifier to get non-amplified signal that a regular LOC can handle. if you hook a regular LOC behind the radio, it will sound like poop, if it works at all. i've heard it can fry the bose amp, too, but not too sure about that. -UK Mr._Miyagi on 07/15/2005 00:21:13 A few months back when I was looking for a system I listened to the Basslink at a Circuit City and was not all that impressed. Obviously that doesnt mean too much as it was not in a car but still...I would definitely go listen to some of your options before you buy online especially if its easy and there is a BB or CC near you. (My 2 Pennies) -Eli lessismorespl on 07/15/2005 08:21:17 IMHO, you can't beat the Kenwood amplified sub, the enclosure is built and ported for SQ, it gives off a nice smooth bass, and is less than the Basslink by far. I agree, I have heard the 3 different models of Infinity's Basslink and was not impressed, this included the $399 model in a Ford Focus. However, you still want to research what is out there. I take it you are looking for good SQ, so the Kenwood would be probably the least exspensive and would give you the SQ you are looking for(enhanced bass to your factory system). UK is right, the PAC LOC for $99 is your best bet, the less exspensive ones do not sound as good, and they can be a hassle to install. Your options for best over all SQ is the PAC LOC or the JL Audio Cleansweep, it is $399.99 but has several features such as: EQ, Crossover, Line Driver, and is a LOC. It is basically made to get the best possible SQ out of a factory system. The Kenwood set-up along w/ the PAC LOC will give you what you are looking for, I usually charge about $55 to install the powered subwoofer and PAC LOC. So for under $500 to add a better bass response to your system is not bad. If you shop around, you can find those Kenwoods for less than $249. We have it on special right now for $200 + Tax installed, and we are a authorized dealer, so I know you can find it somewhat cheaper if you shop around. less butterbeanmachine on 07/15/2005 09:15:05 MTX makes the under the seat enclosures i saw it in the summit catalog for like 150$ with a 12" sub,abs plastic, looks nice swez on 07/15/2005 10:03:24 MTX does make a good over all product lineup. The Thunderforms that install under seats, tend to be down firing units that fire right into the flooring and carpet. That design leads to several dB losses as the carpet absorbs and reflects bass energy. If Less says the Kenwood is a solid product, I would tend to take that advise seriously. He's one of our most experienced installers and knows what works/not work and why. Swez lessismorespl on 07/15/2005 19:00:40 Yes, MTX makes them also, however, the Thunderforms, which is what they are called, cost more than that now that they upgraded all their subs. Those subs are most likely the Road Thunder subs which are their lowest end line. They do not make a Thunderform for the tahoes yet, but you can request one, they will quote you a price depending on which version of sub you want, the 4500, 5500, 7500.....etc.... For the money, as well as the cost of the LOC, you would be very pleased w/ the Kenwood sub set-up, it can all be done for well under $500 installed, and you would not have to take the Tahoe apart too much, just the source unit itself. less We are also one of the biggest MTX Dealers in this area of Michigan. carfreak on 07/16/2005 06:54:14 I like the kenwood setup right up in to the part that is the pac loc. I was kind of thinking I wanted to spend about 250-300 total The kenwood is right there but the LOC is the thing I never even concidered. I was going to pay to have this installed as well so that means I am spending more money yet. I just do not trust my skill level with that new if a car . ( onstar ....ect) I was going to go to the local install shop today and see how much and if they even have the kenwood setup. carfreak on 07/16/2005 06:58:04 also How big is the kenwood set up? it seems that chevy used to put subs in the tahoe in the back where the jack is stored. There is a round sub looking plastic cover ( I thought there was a sub there when I bought it ) . I was wondering if the kenwood would fit there or on the other side hidden. The cargo space in the tahoe is pretty small with all seats in , so i do not want to take up any more that need be lessismorespl on 07/16/2005 10:16:46 Basically, the install should not be that much. The Kenwood amplified sub is a 10" sub in a small ported enclosure. I really do not see where you have many options that are within a $300 budget, unless you go w/ real low-end equipment. The Pac LOC is where it is costing you, b/c if the local shop has the Kenwood sub, you can probably get it for about $200 installed, but then you must add in the LOC plus installation. I would say at best case, about $350 installed, worst case would be $50 more, about $400. If they want more than $400 total, IMO they are trying to get over. less Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
