Hey guys since we call this site club knowledge , somethign just struck me..IDEA Why dont we decide a set of topics , about which we will learn and discuss and do some research on. and at the end of a month , hold a small Test...??THINK participation is voluntary, its for those who really want to learn more about car audio, that way we can get some quality post and learn new things and for the experts it will be a nice revision. What ya say?? are u guys a game for it...??THINK This way we can keep ourselves active with some productive work and freshn up from the regular kind of posts made on CK.. We can decide the details on how to conduct them, set the parameters some marking system and a moderator for the tests.. What ya say.. How many guys are in the CLUB KNOWLEDGE for real sense ..????????????????????THINK comments...?? Victor... Replies (17) swez on 07/12/2005 20:23:06 That's a good "Big Picture" idea...now the hard part is how to set it up and manage it. What sort of things do you have in mind? Am curious... Swez ttocs on 07/12/2005 22:11:29 oh man don't tell me yer asking the teacher for home work..... swez on 07/13/2005 10:12:46 Well said ol man! Good show mate! Swez ttocs on 07/13/2005 11:17:13 I would participate and could find some topics interesting enough to do some research, but for the most part I would take the tests blind, but that would be fun too.... Victor on 07/13/2005 15:27:53 hmm.. .. see on a second thought one does feel like having the fun of it... Fine.. lets make a team which will decide on topics and will conduct the tests or better said "Quiz".. The research, discussions the test will be open for all..Maximum participation will help keep the site interstingly active and will be great fun too.. We wil go at this step by step,, one topic for each month.. but hey all experts out there.. who think they know it all.. man.. you will feel that sometimes we miss on such small details that we wont make a big mistake but will surely make a very silly one.. I need 2 golds to help me with this..We will work as a team.. and consult other golds if and when required... We shall start working on Arranging the Quiz, scoring system and the way we would conduct it,,,But in the last week we shall start developing the questions and in that last week complete secrecy would be maintained for the Quiz to be a surprise.. I request all active golds and members on this site to participate... It will be a great learning experience as well as fun, and i forecast that after the end of the quiz we shall bond together much better that how we do now.. Such an activity would help create a better understanding of the subject as well as a better understanding within members of the CK family. What ya say guys..... Will it be fun?? comments... If you are a game for it please reply positively to this post so that we can know if its really worth doing this effort .. We start on thsi as soon as we get a go from the members and Swez.. just need 2 or 3 helping hands who are willing to spend some time and do some effort to make this a success.. Victor... swez on 07/13/2005 16:41:53 Could be fun. Could be interesting. Could be time consuming too. Have any general thoughts on the syllabus for the 1st month? Sort of a summary of: Topics Scope Things to research Take aways Pop Quiz Swez PS Always wanted to be a teacher... that's probably why I like coming here to CK... hehe Victor on 07/13/2005 17:05:34 The page has been viewed 81 times.. yet not a single reply from other regular active members on the site.... Bump. lessismorespl on 07/13/2005 18:42:30 Some people may be somewhat intimidated by this. I would welcome a more indepth topic section, as well as the quiz part. it would weed out those that really know what they are doing and those that don't. less oldmazda on 07/14/2005 03:56:26 i would be interested in the learning part of it i don't post as much i would like to especially to others comments mostly because i don't know if what i'm saying is always exactly true and i don't want to give anyone misleading info. i would like to know what i do know though kinda put myself to the test, i know i don't know a lot but i've been on here reading a lot of the other posts it'd be interesting to know what little i know :D mazda compvr15s on 07/14/2005 04:22:09 this sounds like a great idea victor, i think it will help people express maybe thier strengths and weaknesses..... sounds like fun too, seems to be it may be a lil time consuming but theres nothing wrong with that, im game if everybody esle is, let me know if ya need help or if there is anything i can do.... hopefully it will bring some of the members out of the woodworks, i know he have to have atleast 35-50 regular members but only see 5-10 ppl post regularly, i know alot of people just "use" us lol, join, ask a question, get the answer and then not come back untill they have another question..... so it will be good to hopefully see alot of participation on the site.... Victor on 07/14/2005 07:12:49 Ok.. seems everyone has started to see a positive result through the means of this exercise.. We need more participation tho.. Just thought up a topic.. lemme know what do u think is appropriate for the first experiment.. Since its the first one.. i guess we should start with the very basics.. I knwo its going to be simple.. but yet .. Ohms law , its ingredients and applications. will include the following... Electrons, Volt, voltage, Current, ampere, Resistance,Impedance, Ohms, Power, Watt, Ohms law, Algebric representation of Ohms law, Series parallel calculations. comments....?? Have tried to keep it simple and easy since we dont want to surprise the learners with some heavy topic which they would not feel interested in.. If any of you got some other topic in mind.. put them up here for the approval of all. Victor... lessismorespl on 07/14/2005 07:55:52 How about a little history on where Ohm's Law came from. Ohm was named after a German physicist (Georg Simon Ohm) that discovered the relationship between current, voltage, and resisstance from a conductor of constant temperature. We must understand 4 basic parameters to understand how the ohms law works; voltage, current, resistance, and power. If we have 2 of these parameters for our calculations, we can figure ut the other 2. It sounds simple, however, it is more difficult than it appears, yet, once you know it, it becomes much easier to understand. I always had trouble w/ algebra in school, so when I was first learning about ohms law and other basic parameters of car audio, it was rather difficult b/c almost all calculations are done w/ basic algebra. The 2 most basic calculations are: Power = Electrical Current(amps) X Electromotive Force(volts) in basic terms: Power = amps x volts Electromotive Force = Electrical Current X Electrical Resistance(measured in ohms) in basic terms: volts = amps x resistance(measured in ohms) From these 2 basic formulas. we can pretty much calculate these 4 basic parameters. Victor, we may want to start off w/ the parameters and what they are, how they work, and what their role is in the chain of power. We could break it down Electrons, Volt, voltage, Current, ampere, Resistance,Impedance, Ohms, Power, Watt, once people have some basic knowledge of how each these work and what their role is, then we can move on to how they work together and what their relationship is to the audio world, be it home or mobile. Just a thought. People like ourselves, Swez, UK, ttocs, etc.. pretty much know this so it seems simple to just jump to the ohms law, but for those that do not know how these parameters work and what their relationship is, the ohms law can become confusing. any comments??? less swez on 07/14/2005 10:22:28 Good starter topic and a very useful one as well. If 10 new people here could become familiar and proficient with Ohms Law, that would be a great milestone. Helpers? Count me in for the moment. I still have some spare time for such things. This may be a slow time to start such a program as it is summer and most folks are out having a good time. So, participation may be light until summer is over. But that's OK... we can still try it. We can use bcae1 as a guide as it covers all these basic topics and even gives diagrams, calculators and animated tuitorials. A great site that all serious audio techs will want to use often. Why re-invent the wheel? http://www.bcae1.com/ How shall we begin Victor? Swez COFFEE Victor on 07/14/2005 10:54:18 actually "bcae1" was the site from where i got the idea of selecting the above topic.. SMILE `so lets begin by defining a few terms . should we do it here or on a fresh thread??? Define : also Explain with suitable examples the following terms 1 Electrons 2 Volt 3 Voltage 4 Current 5 Ampere 6 Power 7 Watt 8 Resistance 9 State the Ohms law 10 Show the algebric representation of ohms law. Reference material : www.bcae1.com , www.the12volt.com The next step will be co-relating the above terms with various examples and mathematical expressions. Mean while we shall be discussing all the doubts and confusions that arise as we proceed.. One more thing, if there is only going to be golds participation then its no use doing this exercise cause all of us are through with this.. this is being done just for those members that wish to learn and develop their skills and knowledge to become successful DIY'ers, and will inturn help all those who know this to de-rust. Victor.. swez on 07/14/2005 15:47:23 No kidding? I would never guessed that from our resident cut & paste Expert... LOL Good starting point, common terms, definitions that people can relate to and some concrete examples (We cannot see electrons, volts or amperes per-se) but we can anologize them to common things like water, pressure, volume and some degree of resistance to the flow of water etc. How does that sound for starters? Swez lessismorespl on 07/14/2005 18:58:15 I think we should go over the basics, such as: 1 Electrons 2 Volt 3 Voltage 4 Current 5 Ampere 6 Power 7 Watt 8 Resistance So people have a better understanding of what they are since they are all directly related to ohms law. Once people have an understanding of these, what they are, how they work, and what their relationships to ohms law are, they will understand why ohms law is so important. We could work our way down the list, then ohms law would be much easier for most to understand. less Mr._Miyagi on 07/15/2005 00:31:33 Guys, don't mean to salt your game but there is already a test for this Called the AP Physics B test. Seeing all the guts of speakers brings back horrible horrible memories of me sleeping through said course all last year. I guess keep up the good work? Swez you said you always wanted to be a teacher, I bet you and some of the other golds would be not have too much trouble teaching Physics to high schoolers. You're never too old!
