I currently have the Pioneer TS-W1500SPL (600 wrms and 1500 wmax 4 ohm dvc). I am ordering another one and with that when i wire them up I can only run them at 1 or 4 ohms. Now the question I have is does anybody reccomend a mono amp that is truly 1 ohm stable? I've did some research on the POWER ACOUSTIK 2400 DB (2400 wrms @ 1ohm) and the CONCEPT 2400 ( also 2400 wrms @ 1ohm) and DIRECTED AUDIO D1200 ( 1200 wrms @ 1ohm). In my research I've read about how these amps get hot quickly and how you need fans because of the low load. I need something that will play for hours at a time and not go into protect mode due to temperatures. So if anyone has any reccomendations or experiences with these products or even a different product that would be greatly appreciated! My budget for an amp is 200.00 to 300.00 I've even thought about 1 amp for each sub to achieve a two ohm load but don't know what's best. 1 big or 2 small amps. Replies (9) compvr15s on 06/23/2005 01:10:16 have you thought about a 2 channel amp, around 400-600 watts per channel @2 ohms... im sure those subs will bump with around 400 and over. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=5784312186&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW maybe something like that. it will draw alot of power, but i dont many amps that will run @ 1omh for a long amount of times, without groing into protect. good luck anonymous_a on 06/23/2005 04:01:03 Ok please try to understand this your best as I get series and paralel confused. What if I wired each sub seperately at 4 ohms and at the amp ran the positive and negatives on each speaker together would this give me a 2 ohm load for these subs? Would this be the same as two 4 ohm svc's wired together for a 2 ohm load? Victor on 06/23/2005 06:36:52 http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?t33 See this for wiring reference.. comments...?? Victor.. compvr15s on 06/23/2005 18:32:26 yea check the page vic showed you.. a single 4 dvc sub can not be wired at 4 ohms. you can do 2omhs with parellel wiring, 8ohm with series wiring. so if you have two subs, you will need a 1omh stable amp like you mentioned, or a high power 4omh amp prolly not going to find one, or a 2 channel amp with moderate power at 2omhs from each channel... anonymous_a on 06/23/2005 20:14:15 For a 2 channel amp I'm looking at the Kicker 850.2 and the MTX 942.2 For the MTX so far on the reviews I'v read people are saying that that amp is a beast when it comes to power consumption and is highly reccommending an alternator upgrade but as far as the Kicker the seems sufficient enough. compvr15s on 06/23/2005 20:46:46 that mtx amp looks like a great choice, i dont have any experience with mtx 2 channel but when i had an older 403 model i think, 4channel, i had trouble with it over heating. i think it was cuz the shops install but im not sure, that will be good power for those subs, just make sure to set gains correct and you will be good, price is high but mtx is good gear lessismorespl on 06/23/2005 20:55:51 Yes, that MTX amp is a beast, but draws serious current. I have used several amps that operate well @ 1ohm, presently I'm running Diamond Audio, the D3 is there entry level and it operates great 1ohm, it has never gone into protect and hardly even gets hot even after several hours. I have also ran Ample, the Exonic series @ 1ohm w/ no problems, Zapco, Audison, and also Braxx. Many manufacturers will boast 1ohm stability, but few can honestly handle it. Here is a list of amps that I have experience w/ running @ 1ohm: http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=266&1=661&3=3056 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=266&1=661&3=2704 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=374&1=375&3=3324 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=374&1=375&3=2329 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=399&1=705&3=3449 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=399&1=705&3=3447 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=416&1=417&3=2571 http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=490&1=491&3=327 I have either used, or installed many of these and have never heard of any problems operating @ 1ohm. Many of them are in the $400 range, some are kind of higher end, dollar 4 dollar, I would go w/ either the Memphis or the Diamond Audio, both have proven themselves to withstand the infamous 1ohm. less anonymous_a on 06/23/2005 22:44:18 Looks as if I'm just gonna have to stay with 1 sub and the MTX 801d or Kicker 600.1 If I choose to port the box will that give me more SPL? compvr15s on 06/23/2005 22:57:47 yea porting will add a few db, will help out a lil bit, i would recommed the kx600.1 i have 2 of them and they are great, have never let me down, not even gotten warm after 4 plus hrs at full tilt Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
