Car Audio Install Questions, Capacitor, Amp, Terminal

Here is what I am running. 220 watt amp, bridged mono to one 10" Sub, 12db bass boost crossover. (I know it's not much but I'm getting old!)

I just got a 4 gauge wiring kit for the amp and a distribution block to use for the amp and the crossover.

Do you recommend I get a 1/2 farad capacitor (I plan on upgrading my amp to a 500 watt), and do I really need it?

Do you recommend I upgrade my battery terminal connection to a nice one like Fosgate or Phoenix Gold?

Any other suggestions for me?

A capacitor would really not do much, IMO it would be a waste of money. As for upgrading your battery terminal, it really would not make much difference. I have done many experiments w/ wire and terminals, as long as the connections are solid and secure, you really do not have to upgrade that. Wire is where resistance comes into play more-so than terminals, Streetwires has the least resistance, then JL Audio and Stinger are about the same, after that it really does not matter.
As for upgrading, a Big 3 upgrade would do you more good than a capacitor and it is inexspensive.

Less, Thanks for your advise. What would be a Big3 Upgrade? Fosgate, Phoenix Gold, and JL Audio? What are your Big 3?

Wiring is the big 3

Wiring to/from the alternator/battery
Battery to your amplifiers
Better/newer battery.

No, the Big 3 upgrade is upgrading the wiring in your charging system. Most vehicles use 10 ga wire, a few use 8 ga. by upgrading to 4ga, 2ga, 0/1 ga you can reduce dimming and small voltage drops, have more stable voltage and better current flow, and place less strain on your vehicle's charging system.

The Big 3 wires are:
1) Battery negative to chassis
2) Alternator to battery positive
3) Chassis to engine

You would need a few ring terminals and some extra wire, that is all. Even if you bought the best ring terminals and wire on the market it would not cost you more than maybe $15-$20, about half of what a cheap 1/2 farad capacitor would run.

P.S. here is a URL to a tutoral on how to do the Big 3:

This will pretty much explain everything in detail, if you have any further ?'s you can ask us, many of us are knowledable in the Big 3 upgrade. I personally have been doing them for over 5 years now.
