Component Speaker Question

Hello,

I just ordered some Diamond Audio S500 components, and I am wondering what kind of amp I should get to power them. I am confused when it says ___ watts @ 4 ohms and ___ watts at 2 ohms. I was looking up series and parallel wiring and I am still confused. Would my speakers be 2 ohms or 4? I am going to wire them in parallel.
Thanks Jeff

The S500 5 1/4 comps are 100 wRMS @ 4ohms. They are 4ohm speakers and you would want somewhere around 60-100 wRMS per channel for them.

Agreed... that power range is good for your Comps. Also, if you are thinking about a sub amp now (or later), consider the power all amps will draw as part of your install plan.

A solid 2 channel amp in the 60-100 Wrms/channel, range will draw between 20-30A of current. No problem for most stock electricals. Adding a sub amp later, can lead to power shortages at the ALT/BAT. Planning for transitions ahead, can save time and $$$ later.

Finally, this size amp (2 ch) will need a #8 gage power line and ground. If you even think a sub amp is coming later, drop to a larger wire gage like #4. A #4 wire can handle 80-100A with no sweat.
