Pioneer Wiring - red and yella

I've just bought a Pioneer deh-p9400mp MP3 HU (its well wicked) an ex-demo model. After 8 HOURS of work fitting the damn thing in the extra tiny space in my dash (I live in the UK, own a Fiat Punto - don't ask, just know its not built for ICE) MAD

PROBLEM: my car has a timer circuit for the original radio which means it stays constantly live when you switch off the ignition, allowing it to shut off after 20 minutes (but the power is still active so it can be turned on/off whether the ignition is on or not.
This means i have the irritating task of switching off and opening the unit manually everytime I stop - no warning bleep, no auto eject.

Now, on pioneers there is a yellow constant wire for battery backup and a red wire for Ignition On/Off. These wires come with split terminals so you can seperate them and swop them (i.e the yellow wire can join the red at the HU and the red can join the yellow) the manual says to try this if you have a different style ignition. It made no difference.

IDEA
My only theory is to bypass the timer relay by connecting the red wire direct to the ignition switch and NOT to the rest of the loom. THINK

Will that work?

Red and Yellow are switched in the UK? Hmmm.

Well, here in the US, yellow is the one which connects to the ignition, and red is constant.

I have a similar situation in my blazer, but opening the doors stops the 20 minute power delay.

As for your theory, as long as the red and yellow are how you say they are, yes this should work fine, as long as you catch the power signal before the timer. If you don't already have a fuse inline with this connection, I would suggest adding one, especially if you are messing with direct connections to your ignition.

Thanks Tray,

Unfortunately, my car doesn't switch off when you close the door.
And yeah, Yellow is constant (BATTERY) and red is labelled 'ACC'. The yellow wire has a fuse and what i think is a supressor (big square lump)... Should i use the same rated fuse as on the constant wire?
