When wiring from amp to speakers [splits and 6*9s] do i just use the standerd 2mm ones that come in the box with them or do i need to go heavey duty?? Replies (3) lessismorespl on 06/12/2005 06:57:09 I believe the 16 ga wire would be fine. It is said that in most cases, even the factory 18 ga is fine. I prefer to use my own wire and usually stick to 16 ga wire. So I do not see where using the wire supplied by the manufacturer, or in buying some heavy duty 14 ga wire would make that much of a difference...other than your out-of-pocket costs. less swez on 06/12/2005 09:13:56 Agreed, no need for heavy duty wires on a speaker unless you are planning to use a large amp to power them. Swez MrBrownstone on 06/13/2005 15:45:37 Wire size is conditioned on how much power, and how long of a distance. I'm going to venture to say that if you are passing <300 Watts to each speaker and under 8 feet length, whatever came with the speakers is fine. 6x9s don't need any special wire--and neither do component speakers when fitted in the back of a car. I might be inclined to use 14 or 12 guage when sending signal from the trunk all the way to the front of the car, but that may not be necessary either.
