I just bought an iPod yesterday, and I was wondering if Alpine's KCA-420i was the best sounding option of connecting it to my HU. http://alpine-usa.com/products/leading_technology/leading_tech_kca-420i.htm Thanks Replies (14) ttocs on 06/9/2005 10:59:09 as long as you have an alpine head unit. aposynthesi on 06/9/2005 11:25:27 Yes - Alpine CDA-9835... http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_info?p_item_name=CDA-9835&p_category=10&p_subcategory=20&p_main=10 I have been reading reviews at Crutchfield and a lot of people haveb been disappointed by the iPod interface. I may call Alpine and see if the speculations are true. UKinstaller on 06/10/2005 01:43:20 i have an iPod adapter on my IVA-D300, it really sucks. it's hard to navigate through the songs, and it only plays the first 250 on your iPod. i don't recommend them, i personally think you'd be better off just running the headphone output on the ipod into an input on your cd player and controlling it through your ipod. same exact sound quality, but much better control. the new alpine 2005 head units are supposed to have better support. i'm getting the new IVA-D310 in a few weeks and it's guaranteed to have much better support. -UK ttocs on 06/10/2005 13:35:29 I thought they had changed that for this years model? ryan2 on 06/10/2005 13:53:19 Well i had the alpine adapter hooked to my 9833(before it got stolen) and i didnt have any problems. I liked it alot and i have a little over 300 songs on my ipod aposynthesi on 06/10/2005 15:26:15 Yeah - I will be running the iPod's headphone output to the HU. I have been reading many reviews and found that something like UKinstaller mentioned would work best for me. I would much rather control the songs on the iPod through the iPod rather than the HU. I will have the full 30 gigs of music on it at all times, so the 250 song limit wouldn't work out for me. What Alpine adapter would I use to link the iPod to the HU? aposynthesi on 06/11/2005 20:07:57 Bump ryan2 on 06/11/2005 22:46:56 Alpine only makes one. Its the one that connects into the Ainet on the back of the headunit. I think the model number is something like KAC-i402. But you want to use the other method, this is the one to use throught the HU. aposynthesi on 06/11/2005 23:23:28 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-i8R5kN9FNC5/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=234650&id=morephotos&i=500KCA121B Alpine KCA-121B connects thru Ai-Net... have to find an adapter for the headphone jack to RCA then. UKinstaller on 06/12/2005 12:41:02 the alpine-iPod direct connect box is the KCA-420i. i would use the ai-net to RCA input adapter that aposynthesi mentioned. -UK aposynthesi on 06/13/2005 00:55:02 I wonder if Monster Cable's iCable would work, then plugging it into auxillary instead of Ai-Net. I'd prefer not to use Monster Cable, but that is the only solution that I can find as of now. UKinstaller on 06/13/2005 10:23:06 all the iCable is is a really expensive 3.5mm to RCA jack. it converts the headphone output into male RCA jacks to plug into an input. radioshack makes the same exact cable for like $5, versus $25 for the iCable. does your head unit have an aux input?? if it does, you just run the 3.5mm to RCA cable mentioned. if it does not have an input, you can get an adapter to convert the Ai-Net on the back of the radio into an aux input and plug the RCA's into that. if it has neither an aux input or ai-net, you will have to use an FM Modulator. however, if it's any sort of new and decent alpine radio, it should have ai-net. -UK aposynthesi on 06/13/2005 17:30:28 It has Ai-Net and Aux... it's the most expensive cd player they make before you get DVD included. aposynthesi on 06/13/2005 17:43:23 CDA-9835, I put a link to it in my second post.
