Hi there. My cousin is doing a full custom job on a 94 Jimmy. He asked for my advice on a stereo. This is what I came up with, wondering if I can get some opinions. The Jimmy has two 4x6 locations in the dash, and two 6.5 in the rear doors. He's also buying some q-logic kick panels to put in a comp system. So..Dash speakers - http://www.epinions.com/elec_Car_Stereo_Speakers-Subwoofers-Polk_PolkEXProductFamilyily-Polk_EX462a Component system - http://www.epinions.com/Alpine_Type_R_SPR_17LS_6_1_2_2_way_Component_Speakers_6_1_2_Component_Systems_Car_Speaker/display_~full_specs Amp for dash speakers and components - http://www.epinions.com/616027_JL_Audio_75W_x_4_Amplifier_300_4 Rear door speakers - http://www.epinions.com/614142_Alpine_6_5_2_Way_Speakers_SPS_1729S/display_~full_specs Any imput would be greatly appreciated.. Also, he has an older Alpine 1241D 12" sub. It's dvc 4x4 as far as I know, and he has a jl audio 500x1. ALso, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to make a clickable link. Sorry :( Replies (7) Victor on 06/7/2005 04:57:42 Good selection of speakers, you wont go wrong with polk and alpine. r u going to power the rear speakers with the HU..?? or u gonna use an amp? What HU are u using? That alpine sub is rated for 300wrms , wiring the sub in parallel would give 500wrms but then there will be the hazards of overpowering which i would not recommend, instead if u wire it in series for 8ohms you will get a healthy 250wrms from that amp which is sufficient to run the sub properly. well I cant figure out how to make the clickable link too..:( Victor... Descent on 06/7/2005 06:38:37 Yea, the rear speakers will be powered off the HU, that's why I looked for a decent pair that didn't require much power. I don't remember what kind of HU off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it's a halfway decent Panasonic, 50Wx4 max. And about the sub, I've heard from quite a few places on the net that the type-r can handle quite a bit more than the 300 that is recommended. But if you guys seem to think otherwise, well, wired in series it is. Thanks for the response Vic, it's appreciated :) Mr._Miyagi on 06/7/2005 10:38:54 Descent, I just thought I'd let you know that I have a type R running 250 Watts RMS and am very satisfied. Although it isnt as loud as some other subs, it hits hard and many were impressed by it. Hope your cousin likes his system. ssallstar598 on 06/7/2005 16:46:58 those 4x6's are what i have in my 1987 blazer and i bought some aftermarket ones and it still didnt sound good... ive tried infinity and kicker and NONE sound good due to the 4x6's weird shape... if i were you i would put a 4 inch round one in there with a special mounting bracket you could build or probably buy somewhere it would sound ALOT better CDT has some really nice sounding 4 inches for around 50 bux i believe.... Descent on 06/7/2005 17:37:44 ssallstar- Yea, I know 4x6's aren't the best choice for speakers, especially when they're in the dash and you need some good sound from them. Does anyone know what is needed to adapt a 4x6 to a 4"? Victor on 06/8/2005 01:36:11 Here you go.. http://polkaudio.com/car/product.php?name=mmc460 That should to the trick.. Victor... swez on 06/8/2005 11:28:46 Plate style 4x6 format is a great option for upgrading dash/door loaded mids. Make sure to use a HP filter above 80 Hz. Also, to get best midbass response from them, a psudo-enclosure will help alot. Could be as simple as stuffing a few ounces of poly fill in the cavity, before mounting the plates.
