i have a 98 dodge durango with the stock am/fm,cassette,cd player.i just bought the vehicle and got some money off because the radio doesnt work.what happens is when i turn on the power the sound comes on for a second and then nothing,no cassette or cd at all.and theres only sound from the right rear speaker for that 1 second.so i decided to install my alpine am/fm cd player out of my monte carlo that im sellingthat i just bought last year and i know works and when i got that in there i got that same right rear speaker working full time but souding like $%^& and it variates loudness when im moving the unit around.now when i ground the unit it sparks quite a bit when i first hook it up and if it isnt grounded at all the radio doesn work at all[no power]just wondering if you guys have any ideas.id like to solve this problem with your help before i got to drop it off at a car stereo business.wishing that its something simple that im missing as im not an electrical geru lol thanks Replies (5) swez on 06/4/2005 19:18:46 Charlie, Most newer Chrysler products have been using Infinity sound systems that integrate into the factory Head Unit. (HU = Radio) They often have amplifers tucked away in the dash or behind interior panels. Wait for one of our Pro installers like ttocs, UK Installer, Lessismore or Kittle to chime in. They can give you the low down on how to proceed. Swez ttocs on 06/6/2005 04:51:09 please make sure the radio is grounded. It may spark a bit but you need to have if grounded. There should be a large silver braided wire to easily gound the radio. and as he said did it say "Infinity" anwhere? charlie1200 on 06/6/2005 06:12:26 yea its not an infinity but the stock chrysler products radio.the stock radio was grounded on a prong on back of the head itself and i grounded the alpine to a seat bolt to get it to work.1 guy on the durango forum said something about having 3 grounds and if 1 doesnt work that could cause it.i didnt see 3,just the 1 on the back.it really $%^&* not having a radio especially in the morning on the way to work! lol thanks for the responses so far ttocs on 06/6/2005 08:54:46 i would bypass the amp if you replaced the factory radio, unfortunatly I am not for sure where the amp is on that vehicle. Look under the seats, they are not normally too hard to find. lessismorespl on 06/6/2005 19:41:25 I'm not sure where the amp is either. Also, it may have had the Infinity Premium sound and a previous owner swapped the main unit for a factory, I have seen this several times and when they install the factory unit it is not set-up for the premium sound so they mess it up and it does'nt work. You may want to get a wiring diagram, in fact, here one is: Constant 12V+: Red/Blue Switched 12V+: Red/White Illumination: Black/Yellow Dimmer : Orange Antenna: Right Front Left Front (+): Dark Green Left Front (-): Brown/Red Right Front (+): Brown/Yellow Right Front (-): Brown/Light Blue Left Rear (+): White Left Rear (-): Dark Blue/Red Right Rear (+): Brown/White Right Rear (-): Brown/Orange Double check the wiring to make sure it is all properly connected. Also, you may have to do some looking, mainly b/c the factory amps are small and usually well hidden, but you need to find out if it has a factory amp, that can also cause these problems. less Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
