Hello,
I have an 2005 ion and since the battery is located in the trunk, I was wondering if it is fine if I ground my amp to the same place that the battery is grounded in the trunk.

that would be perfect. Use proper size ring terminals and you are golden.

Now about the power cable, is there a minimum length for it? from what it looks like I'll only need 2.5 feet with the fuse holder about a foot away from the battery, is that length fine or should i have a longer power cable?

A short power cable is fine too. Just make sure to install the fuse holder as noted. (typ. <18" from BAT)
