http://www.noiseoff.org/boomcars.shtml enough said once you see the site... so completely stupid. I really frown upon people who know ABSOLUTELY JACK SQUAT about car audio and yet make an article so ridiculus! Replies (18) gearhead on 05/27/2005 01:09:19 They don't need to know anything about car audio. All they need to know is: #1- It bothers them (and others), #2- How to file a civil complaint., #3- The steps to take and which people to contact in order to get a local ordinance passed. Victor on 05/27/2005 01:56:06 Well, One cant just look at it that way, We say this cause Car Audio and SPL are our passion. But we got to look at the other side of the coin too. I personally dont believe in disturbing the neighbour hood and harming my ears with extreme SPL's. They are not Against Car Audio, They are Against the loud thumping and booming which makes their window panes rattle everytime a boom car passes by. I dont see a point why they would not protest. Also most of the cars dont see to sound damping and sound proofing their car, Even if you wanna play at high volumes you must try and reduce the amount of sound going out of the car. Dont drive with windows open, roll down the volume a bit as soon as you reach a populated area, Take part in the competitions and play LOUD, but remember that everyday you go out on streets is not a competition day. Afterall all of us with different views stay in the same society , we ought to live in peace with each other,. and believe me NOISE is a kind of pollution, Personally Crisp clean clear sound at 100-120db will be the best sound possible.. and loud too. I have never seen a necessity to go at SPL's beyond that , because it really distorts the sound, and it gets damn tough to define the sound at SPL's beyond that. Extreme sound is scientifically prove to have adverse effects on the human bodily functions and even cause death. We should consider the difficulty of people who protest and try and live in peace with all, especially neighbours ( some of my neighbours got HOT girls , wouldnt wanna annoy them..hehehe, just joking) Victor.. PS. We have to prove our community to be an understanding and responsible community, we have got some duties towards the society too. Cause we are a part of it, we cannot seperate our community from the rest. They should love the Audio community and value them rather then hate them, and its only our responsible behavior that can bring about this change. swez on 05/27/2005 08:51:28 Interesting bit of advertising and public awareness propaganda there PalmQ. Funny how they cite offenders (enthusiasts) as "anti-social misfits, lower middle class males under the age of 25. There is a note of truth to some of the writer's comments. Deep bass noise travels a long distance and permeates walls, windows and even brick and mortor buildings. It is intrusive to most folks that do not share this "passion" for full concert sound in a moving rock concert format. Cannot say I blame them either. It does disturb the peace and some folks get so frustrated by it, they take their anger to the streets too. Frankly, I find it very annoying to be watching TV, working on the net or doing things in my shop while a "Boom Car" comes into the neighborhood. Especially after 9:00 PM, when most folks are wanting to relax, get their kids to bed or having a little "playtime" with thier spouses, mates, g/f's/b/f's etc. As for labeling these "kids" as anti-social misfits", NOT SO! I often approach guys with "Boom Cars" to ask what they have in their systems and show me what they used. Most are shocked to have an "OLD FART" ask questions and want to look at their installs. Many have done a great job on the installs and sound pretty darn good too. True, a few were just plain "boneheads" and just crank up their systems for the "shock & awe" value and to annoy (get attention) from others. But, they are definitely a minority. In short, local noise ordinances are getting much tougher on Boom Cars. I cannot say I blame them. Especially when they drive down the street at all times of the day or night, blasting out the bass. Let's face it... it's just not cool or smart to do that! Imagine the frazzled Mom that just got her kiddos down for a nap. They are finally sleeping peacefully while Mom takes a much needed break. No sooner are the kids asleep... then "Boom Booom Boooom" come down the block and wakes them up. Now ya got one mad Queen Bee on your hands. Don't be surprised if she calls the police, tracks down the offender and in frustration, burns that car to the ground. Also, consider the poor ol Nightshifter that works the grave yard shift. He's trying to get some sleep so he can go to work that night. Right on que, the "Boom Booom Boooom" car comes and wakes the poor guy up. A few episodes like these.... Mr. Nightshift IS GOING TO TAKE DRASTIC ACTION to get his sleep. Can we blame him? I sure cannot! OK, enough editorials for the day.... just be respectful of others as we drive our concert level SPL machines in residential and urban areas. Not everybody appreciates our hobby. Would we like it if our neighbor fires up his chain saw every day while we are sleeping or trying to relax? I DON'T THINK SO. THINK Swez SMILE gearhead on 05/27/2005 11:10:41 I'll bet there would be some complaints if some of the "boom car" owners were subjected to 4 hrs. of Pavorotti or Domingo at 120db. LOL! MrBrownstone on 05/27/2005 11:54:24 O Sole` Mio How about me singing Placido or Luciano at 70dB? There might be violence in the streets. As long as male birds puff up their chests and chant songs to impress their females, there'll always be male humans that thing women over the age of 14 are impressed by a loud stereo. Just another young vs old battle in society. I do think, however, that if some moran is rattling the windows of homes 60 ft away, he needs to be contained. The loud system is for the road. DB systems are truly for competition, but if the kid wants to damage his own hearing, I have no problem with that. Just don't impose your crud on everyone else. asplundher on 05/27/2005 18:17:49 I consider myself to be a avid car audio enthusiast and once in a while like to "crank it up". The point is not what you do, but how you do it! I love clean sound and I like it loud sometimes as well when a favorite song is playing. Yet, I make sure that I'm on the freeway or on a good stretch in town where no one will be disturbed. When pulling up to a light, I turn it down so people won't be offended. Not only will this perserve the hobby and your hearing, but your equipment from being "advertised" and stolen too. anonymous_a on 05/27/2005 19:45:34 I 'm from Youngstown Ohio and they weren't lying about the crackdown here. I've seen people get a 100.00 ticket just for having the factory radio turned up were there is no houses or barely any businesses. My friend got a 1500.00 ticket and a suspended license with a "barely thumping" system. The best thing to do is what aslundher said keep it down in residential areas and at the lighs. BgDustin4 on 05/27/2005 20:39:49 Dumb Ass ppl lol Boom Cars yay and 1000$ ticket come on ....... danielm87 on 05/27/2005 21:44:02 When i hear loud systems going by, i enjoy it, and i try to figure out what song they're listening to, and i wish there were more of them driving by. All it is is old cranky "baby boomers" who dont like the young folks' culture and music, whether it be Lil Jon or Metallica, and they get cranky when they hear it going down the street making noise. (all of them except Dave) The new generation will rise, and old people will be gone. I can wait. THINK & The south will rise. (again) I can't wait. PROUD P.S.- I have to admit, when i read that article about Boom Cars, i thought it was a spoof, or a fake, because their grammar and knowledge about car audio is VERY lacking. I dunno bout you guys, but it cracked me up. swez on 05/27/2005 22:56:16 Yeah, it cracked me up too. Pretty petty stuff noted and a lot od media bias too. Hey, I like loud music too. As long as it does not disturb the neighbors. Have a pretty booming system in my garage/shop too. My one neighbor is 89 years old and she says... enjoy your music until the news comes on. (11:00 PM) After that, I'd really appreciate quiet. No problem dear woman... the subs get shut off at 9:00 PM and dial way back on the mid/highs too. To be sure I have it reasonable, take a 50 foot walk to the edge of the house. If I can hear more than an occassional "Squawk" for the system, back it off a few more dB. No complaints in 9 months. Now, that's a cool neighbor and I respect her rights to peace and quiet. Unfortunately, I am a "night owl". Like to hear music while puttering around in the garage. But, that sucker leaks sound like a pair of holy panty hose. It would probably cost $1500.00 to add sound dampening materials. Even then, would that be enough? One day, it's a place in the country. Ten acres of land, a 30' x 40' pole barn and no neighbors for at least 1/2 miles. That's my dream spot! Think that will keep the critters away too huh? Swez palmquist on 05/28/2005 00:09:54 ya.. some ppl who dont have respect for anyone just go around blaring their music without a second thought to ppl around them... and bc of that it has p.o.'d too many ppl off and now they are finally doing sumtin about it and it is good that they are cracking down on the ppl abusing, but those of us that arent and just have ppl complain bc we have a system sucks... the ppl who DO crank it up deserve wut they get for "disturbing the peace" if you ask me... i would call it that, not noise pollution... should have to be the ones that get punished, not us... but since there is no way of determining who actually appreciates it and who just turns it up as loud as possible, we will all just have to respect others if you havent and make sure that if you are playing ur music and can clearly hear the song you are playing from more than about 50' or so away than u kno it is too loud... basically, its just common courtesy... but also COMMON SENSE palmQ UKinstaller on 05/28/2005 09:43:34 it's pretty amazing how poorly written that website is. it's like it was written by a fourteen or fifteen year old trying to do a paper for school, just blaring nonsense "facts" one after the other with no real logic. pretty stupid site. i understand people getting upset about hearing loud music though. i put this stuff in every single day and i never like it loud myself. -UK swez on 05/28/2005 20:04:11 Facts? I did not see a lot of facts in that article. More like a lot of very "biased opinions" against Boomers. Frankly, there is a good point in the matter.... many people do not wish to have others imposing their will/music preferences on others. If I wanted to listen to Rap "trash talk" music, would have it on and enjoy it at levels not to bother others. As we drive the main roads and side streets, do we really need our music blaring at 110dB or more? It's annoying as can be to me when I pull up to a light, and have to sit there for 60 seconds or more and listen to "ching ching, booma booma, cuss words, booma booma, ching ching." That's bad... but then we get the same deal at the next light etc. It's bad enough when the vehicle is 30 feet away... but when they sit next to the fool in traffic, would like to lob a brick through the idiots windshield. YES.... it's that offensive at times. The best part of that article was a link to a policeman in OHIO, pulled a kid over, took out his subs and smashed them with a maul hammer. I'd love to have that authority. "Hey buddy... pull over so I can "inspect" your audio system. First he gets a "friendly warning". If the guy gets indignate, break out a few M-80's, light it...drop into port or make a hole in cone (sealed boxes) and in 30 seconds... no more booma booma." Sorry kid... ya messed with the wrong dude! Have a nice day! Swez Smile PS Yeah, it's that bad around here. lessismorespl on 05/28/2005 22:16:34 I have read many articles on this site. I have to agree w/ some of the opinions, but I also disagree w/ some b/c it is very biased. I agree w/ keeping it down in residentials areas, myself working 2 jobs(installer by day, pizza delivery by night), I feel I deserve my night of rest which does not include being awakened by booming bass. I also am a father and I really do not appreciate my son being exposed to vulger references toward other human beings and extreme cussing. I love having a loud system, but I do not pull up to a red light next to a car that has children in it playing offensive and vulger music. I play my system loud on the interstate, in rural areas, and at local sound-offs and competitions, but never in residential districts, apartment complexes, etc... It is just a matter of respect. In my area of Michigan, in the city of Saginaw(AKA: Sagnasty) it is $150 1st, $250 2nd, $500 + 30 days for the 3rd offense, in Saginaw Township where I work, it is $500 regardless, but they mainly only cite people in residential areas and apartment complexes, the business district they seldom cite in. Other areas are jumping on the band wagon also w/ new ordinaces concerning noise. My car is properly dampened, so my music pretty much stays in the car, it is barely audible from 10 or so ft away, but to some that is not cool b/c it can't be heard. I feel there needs to be a line of mutual respect. One thing the article does prove is that ignorance breeds ignorance. The ignorance and disrespect of few select individuals begins a cycle which becomes ever more ignorant on both sides of the spectrum. I agree 100% w/ the opening paragraph on BCAE1.com, if people continue to be ignorant and disrespectful, the laws will get tougher and the interest in car audio will decline. Lets face it, nobody wants to pay huge fines or spend time in jail for just playing loud music. Lets just be respectful of others and they will be respectful of us. Just the other day I pulled into a Walgreens to get my son something and had my music playing, however I always turn it down in areas like store parking lots and such, an older gentleman was parked next to me and mentioned to me "I wish everyone played their music like that". It made me feel good that he noticed my respect of others, and in my opinion he showed his respect and appreciation. There is nothing wrong w/ being loud, lets just remember to respect others which may be offended or bothered by loud music and booming bass. less ttocs on 05/31/2005 03:02:28 I don't think there are nearly as many annoying boom cars as there are annoying harleys. I like bikes but why do they need to constatly be above 150 db to enjoy a ride? I do not condone loud stereos but I do turn mine up when I can enjoy it with out annoying anyone else. There are also occasions when I turn it up just to hear it, for instance when a harley is with in 40 ft of me.......... Hm, maybe my loud stereo causes my medical problemsTHINK? ttocs on 05/31/2005 03:09:22 oh wait he covers that too, as well as Gas powered landscaping tools.............................................
