ok. heres the deal. I have a guy who recently offered me a 2,000 $ finders fee for finding a 1970 w30 oldsmobile convertible or a 1970 buick stage 1 convertible. he wants the original motor in it with a 4 spd tranny. I can't seem to find one restored or unrestored doesnt matter. If anyone wants to help me locate it, i will donate half of the finders fee to this site. I remember the coupe version.... but never saw one in a ragtop. That was a sweet "Muscle Car" in that day. Was that a Regal Sport? Swez Tinker18 on 05/19/2005 20:58:10 yeah, he said the hardtop would be ok too. i cant seem to locate one though, and 1k would help out this site alot. so i was trying to enlist the help of others across the country to try to help out a little. think you can find one that still exists? uochronos on 05/21/2005 16:01:28 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4550515214&category=15287&sspagename=WDVW this the one? also try www.autotrader.com if you havent but click the "classic car" link or something like that and literaly you can find just about any car if you dont care where in the US it is. Tinker18 on 05/21/2005 17:24:43 yeah...thats it, but he doesnt want one off of e-bay. He said it cant be a clone, he wants an original one, with the documentation to prove it. basically, unless anyone knows someone with one...dont think anything is going to happen with this. swez on 05/21/2005 22:50:03 That brings back some good memories. A friend of mine had a 72 Olds 442, triple black. His buddy had the Buick Stage 1 (California Cruiser) That was also a sweet demon ride. This one noy sweet enough for your friend? People in Hell, want ice water too ya know. (It's OK ttocs, I cleared that one with Dad too.) I had a 1970 Pontiac Grandville with the 455 engine, 275 HP and dual exhaust. It did not have the stage I or II heads and intake manifold. These guys ran the pants off me as I also has that heavy automatic 3 speed tranny. Once they hit 2nd gear, I was out of the game. That Grandville was a tank, not a car. Swez uochronos on 05/22/2005 15:32:49 that is not a clone tinker it is a parts matching 1970 olds and if your friend thinks buying from a person on the street is any differnt then buying off ebay he is going to be in a sore place... i wouldnt buy that car before looking at it but... assuming the motor and chasis and all the numbers do match which i imagine they do then that is the perfect car and your friend is letting it slip by. you know its funny i have been swindled countless times from people on the street, car deals(in person), car audio shops, friends, etc.... i have been buying off ebay for 5 years now and never got a single bum product.. not to mention even if this car ended up not being numbers matching you would have ebays support in sueing them... the 1 time i thought i got screwed i emailed ebay and they sent me all the info in hard copy form that i needed.. just saying maybe you should at least show your friend cars like that are hard to come by numbers matching... most those big muscle car engines where blown and replaced long ago... infact i called some friends even for you and found about 5 cars but none where numbers matching. swez on 05/22/2005 19:34:01 Makes sense... this vehicle is 30+ years old and if it was driven as the car was designed, would almost have to expect some degree of engine, tranny or drive train parts repairs/replacements by now. Those old Big Blocks were notorious for timiming chain failures, harmonic balancers and heads needs to be repaired. If it threw a rod, spun a main bearing or burnt a piston/valves, That could have damaged the block to a point where swapping out a newer engine was needed. Swez Tinker18 on 05/22/2005 19:44:06 yeah i know, i called the guy and he seems pretty adamant about not wanting an "advertised" w30. I dunno what hes talking about, because i told him a car like that with numbers matching is hard to come by. he seems to be one of those people who doesnt reason much, just sticks to being hard headed about what they want. gearhead on 05/22/2005 19:44:43 If $$$$$$$ is not an impediment to your friend, he could find what he's looking for within 24hrs. I'm willing to bet that money IS the deciding factor here though. Tinker18 on 05/22/2005 19:49:39 he said anything up to 80,000 $. i dont think he cares about the money. gearhead on 05/22/2005 20:02:41 What's the market on the vehicle? If they're selling (when they DO sell) for more than $80,000, he's not going to find one for $80,000. It's like guys saying they want a numbers matching Hemi-Cuda for $100,000. They ain't gonna find one for that price, or even triple that in many cases. The last one I watched on eBay got to over $1,200,000, and didn't meet reserve. It did sell off eBay for more than the high bid shortly thereafter. Tinker18 on 05/22/2005 22:37:32 i saw one for 60k. numbers matching and all, original engine, probably rebuilt of course, convertible, 4 spd tranny. the market probably tops out at 1.3 1.4 mil, pretty rare car these days.
