well i got myself another JBL B600.1 (found it at a yard sale for $50 GRIN ) and ive got a 15 adire audio tempest wired at 4 ohms to get a 300 watt load and its in a ported box and was wondering if i needed a SS filter

if you are running that low of pwr to that size of speaker in a ported box I would get one.

Great sub... too bad you cannot get more power to it off that amp. However, a well designed ported enclosure will help out and give you ~+3dB more bass, near the PTF. (Port tuned Freq.)
A pair of Harrison Labs F-Mods will do the trick. Use the 30 Hz (HP) version here. This one:
