hey guys gotta question here, im tryin to test a 1998 pioneer deh 445 cd player, so he knows if it works or not. problem is, i cant figure out which wires are which, i have the 8 speaker wires seperated, but im having problems iwth the other. there is a red, yellow, orange, black, brown, white. can guess black is ground and orange is 12+ by the thickness of the wire... but yellow, red which would be switched here, and i have no clue what the white and brown are for, never seen these before. the blue and the brown, both have what looks to be half of a fuse holder on them, both say .5A. any help here. i was able to use an old power supply off a computer to test other head units, but can not get this one to work.. any ideas, do some pioneer head units require antenna to be hooked up to work???? any help would be great. thanx. Replies (7) Tinker18 on 05/14/2005 18:06:58 get a volt meter and test the wires 4 the ones that are hot. you should have a ground(black), a hot 12+(orange) and an accesory wire which wires into the harness should be red. the blue is most likely the remote wire.the yellow is most likely an antenna wire and brown illumination. not entirely sure on this comp, say 98%. ttocs on 05/15/2005 14:37:50 orange is constant, red is switched, black of course is ground. the brown wire I believe could be a cell mute, or it could be a door trigger hook up for a cheap alarm they liked to put in the decks back then. Either way the blue and brown should not require anything on them, just insulate and ignor. compvr15s on 05/15/2005 16:07:25 ok thanx, i will try to wire it up as soon as i ge a chance. i noticed a few wires have a inline black cover about an inch and a half long, opened one and it seems to be a resistor or something of the sort, could this be the problem.... and any idea on the antenna needing to be pluged in for the pioneers to work... also another question, the truck his putting this in is wired all wrong, its an 85 ford ranger. whoever owned it before him, must have rewired the thing for some reason, first off the were using black cable for pos and red for neg from the battery, i know the color dont matter but usually red is + and black is -. we looked for a switched in the dash could not find one, so can we just wire a new fuse in the fuse box for switched or what other options can we wire to for switched... would it just be easier to tap into the constant with a switch and locate it somewhere.. we had to run a new fused constant, could we couldnt locate 12v constant anywhere.... ttocs on 05/15/2005 18:35:54 the black pellet is a resistor. When I worked for shops that carried pioneer the first thing I would do while installing is cut that little sob out.... They do go bad, always..... the only reason the deck would require the ant, is if it was not grounded properly. In this case it would seek ground through the ant, but that is not a good thing to do. the previous owner rewired it as vehicles in that era normally had a common ground system, which does not work on floating ground radios. Common ground radios have not been made much in the last 15-20 yrs, so vehicles like this require re-wireing. And the red ground could be a factory thing, or they just followed the factory color code when replacing the wire. In ford red is ground. There should be a switched wire in the dash but no constant, unless somebody added one. I can look up the color codes of all the wires when I get home. compvr15s on 05/15/2005 19:47:59 ty ttocs i would appreciate that, all the wires in the dash are mangled and bad, so ill probably end up taking a few inches off each one ttocs on 05/15/2005 21:52:30 drivers speaker green = pos black/white = - pass spkr white/red = pos black/white = - note the common ground..... What that means is that at some point that wire will split into 2 wires (same color) and one goes to each speaker. This often happens at the back of the hrns. If the hrns was cut off then you will have two wires that are the same color, one per speaker. constant = yellow switched = red/light grn er black/light grn er grey/yellow. and like I said ford likes to use red for ground. compvr15s on 05/18/2005 04:48:38 thanx for the help guys. i tried hooking the head unit up today to no avail, so i decided to take face plate off and try to dissasemble the unit, well i started that got the front cover off, looked as if it has been taken apart before since the little light on teh front was no longer hooked up, so i just blew out the inside of the unit, plugged the light back in, reassembled the unit, and tada it worked fine off the computer power supply, guess must have had some dust in the case, hooked it up in the ford ranger and it worked great, once again thanx for the help Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
