I must apologize for not working more on getting a tutoral on here. I will try to take some time and get it done over the next few weeks, I will also try to include some pics of my car's "Big 3". In the tests I have done on my car, and few other cars I have done "big 3's" on, the results have been great: Reduced headlight dimming and less frequent voltage drops. Better current flow. The voltage is more stable. The results of the "big 3" are better than the results I had from a 5 farad capacitor, in fact, every "big 3" I have done, the person says they will never waste money on a cap again. The "Big 3" stands for the 3 primary wires under your hood that deal w/ your charging system. 1. Battery Neg. to chasis 2. Chasis to engine block 3. Alternator to battery pos. I used 4 ga. in my upgrade. If anyone would like a small tutoral I can email you one. I will try to have the DIY up in a few weeks, time is quite short for me right now w/ competition season in full effect, the summer brings out new systems and lots of install work, and I also have to have time for my full time job and time for my girl and my 4 month old son(you ever try to teach the ohms law to a 4 month old). Any questions on the Big 3 can be answered here, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has done one or is familiar w/ the positive results. Replies (3) oldmazda on 05/16/2005 10:58:26 this sounds like i could seriously benefit from this, i have really been suffering from voltage drop and wasn't sure what to do about it. my old amps have unregulated power supplies so when the voltage would drop they would shut down. a few days ago i bought a new alpine MRP-M350 i think is the model number and though it does not shut down on me i can always tell when the battery is only partially charged because my stereo will not get as loud as i know it can, after a while the battery charges and the subs get louder but even when it seems to be working better i don't think that its working at its full potential, the amp doesn't even heat up it is barely even warm which is probably a good thing but i always thought that if it would put out full potential it would create more heat if it were making more wattage. would upgrading the big 3 cure my problems at all? lessismorespl on 05/16/2005 11:44:37 The Big 3 upgrade would help somewhat, but you may want to consider a good deep cycle battery also. I use the 1000CA 800 CCA 110RC Optima Red Top, which probably helps somewhat also. You do not need to go w/ an Optima or Stinger, you could find any good battery w/ more power and reserve capacity and it would also work just fine, and be somewhat cheaper than the Optima or Stinger. Drop me your email and I will send you some pics of my Big 3 in my 03 Taurus and some detailed diagrams and directions. It is fairly easy and takes maybe an hour at the most. I used Streetwires 4ga w/ good solid ring terminals, and I used 150 ANL fuse for the pos. between the fuse relay and the battery. It works great and definately would give you some improvement. cybersailor420 on 05/16/2005 12:13:29 http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=007801 this is the best website i've seen on this topic. hope it helps! -Ian- Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
