Anyone know how to get the factory head unit out of a 1985 chevy caprice classic? Please Help.

you, my friend, are in for a REAL fun time getting that radio out. you notice how the radio is directly below the a/c controls?? well, ALL of that has to come out.
look below the radio and you will find i think two or three 7MM bolts, take those out. next, you have to completely disassemble the glove box and take it all the way out. from there, disconnect all the the air conditioning controls and springs, all of which are behind the glove box, which will allow you to pull the air conditioning unit out.
be careful, because all of the pieces are very fragile.
take a couple 7MM bolts out of the air conditioning unit, and the a/c and radio unit will come out as one piece. put it up on a bench, disconnect all of the air conditioning controls, and remove the radio. install the new radio in the location of the old one, and attach it to the a/c unit.
get ready, because this is an INCREDIBLY hard car to put a radio in, especially if you are a beginner. i don't know if you are or not, i'm just saying. they SUCK!!

Sounds like a real nightmare install here. You may wish to leave this one to a Pro installer and pay a few extra bucks to avoid breaking stuff in the process.

yea there is a reason nobody has replaced that radio......
I believe there are some wiring problems also, common gound possably?

naw, it's not common ground. it's a MET-99-1677-1 wiring harness.
i work close to a very, very rough part of louisville, and we get the old school caprices quite often. they suck!!

reminds me of my days installing in evansville IN. We saw a fair share of thsoe too...

i'm two hours from evansville. i wrestled a few teams from there in high school. how long ago did you live there ttocs??

25 yrs. Moved to newburgh(just east of e'ville) when I was under a year old. Went to castle high school.
