I am currently building a sealed enclosure for 4 10s and need help on measurements.Don't know what type of car yet but I've measured a few trunks and concluded that 43 inches is the most common length I got. I layed out the 4 in a row on a sheet of mdf, and the measurement is 45 and a half inches.I wan't them all facing the same way (if possible). If anyone knows of any websites that will give me measurements or if any suggestions on any kind of setup other than in a row I'm all ears.Does it honestly matter how much the inside airspace is as long as it is not excessive or not, not enough? And does it matter what way the sub is firing(up,forward, backward, sideways, etc...)? Does it matter if 2 subs are in 1 chamber? For sealed applications, most 10's will specify a range like 0.5 - 0.85 ft^3 (internal airspace) per sub. Follow the sub mfg's recommendations. (that about 4.0 ft^3) To make a 4-in-line enclosure, figure about 13" H as min., and 13" width per sub panel. Each sub should be enclosed in it's own chamber. Using this idea, we are looking at ~55.75" of external width. (almost 5 feet wide as we have to account for the 5 x 3/4" dividers and end panels) Obviously, not enough width in most trunks to fit that size box. As for sub placements, most find firing the subs to the rear bumper work best. Up firing subs are fine in PU trucks, but in trunk mounts, bass tends to hit the trunk lid and reflect back to the subs which produce cancellations and lots of trunk lid resonances. The higher the SPL, the worse these will sound, unless the trunk lid is well dampened with sound deadeners like Dynamat, Brown Bread, B-Quiet or E-dead. Is there any real reason to use a 4x10 sub system? A pair of potent 10's or 12's will do most installs well. Can always go ported for more bass SPL at targeted frequency range too. Yes, a larger box is needed, but we can pick up several dB more bass at tuned frequency range with less power. Comments? Swez anonymous_a on 05/14/2005 11:30:13 The reason I want 4 10s is because I have 2 and a hifonics 1205 mono amp and that amp would blow them so I decided to get 2 more so I can run the amp at 1 ohm(1200 wrms) and pound. What's the deal with 3 subs running off of 1 amp? If you have 3 four ohm subs they wire to a 1.3 ohm load or something? Will a regular 1 ohm stable amp (the hifonics 1205) work on 3 subs if it is 1 ohm stable? Also what is 4 10s better than 3 10s? swez on 05/14/2005 15:19:58 Tri subs are more managable and yes, if all are 4 ohms each, in parallel we get a 1.33 ohm load. That amp can handle that fine and still give you >1000 Wrms total amp power. That's plenty of bass engine for most guys. Question is, what about the subs. They would need to manage at least 300 Wrms per sub. What subs do you plan to run here? (make & model # is most helpful) Swez anonymous_a on 05/14/2005 15:55:57 Actually the 2 I alredy have are from the Visonik package deal with the amp( just wanted the amp they came with for highs) and the woofers aren't actuually that bad so I figure I can run them along with 1 or 2 more tens just until they go bad then just replace them with subs to match the others. I plan on buying 1 Kicker, or mtx now (don't know what model) and just replacing the Visoniks with the same Kicker or mtx when they go bad. As far as the Visoniks I don't know anything about them as far as model or wattage there is nothing stamped on them or anything. I do know the magnet is about 50 oz. The package I got is VB210PKG. That is all I know. Please let me know if you have any idea on the wattage specs. swez on 05/15/2005 12:44:37 Looks like these are 200 Wrms subs... tops Not much info on this package I can find that makes any real sense. If it were me, I would probably sell the subs and box and use that money to buy some better subs for your future design. Do you have the model number on that Visoniks amp?
