Your first option package looks like a solid combo. Interesting sub design here too. More cone area than conventional 10" rounds and they can take 500 Wrms each too.

ED Nine series is a decent offering. Cheaper than some of the bigger brand names out there. But wait until others who have used ED products add their comments.

The Xtant X series subs are very nice. Excellent choice in my opinion. Have you looked at the Xtant amps also, they are very nice, somewhat high price wise, but very nice amps and they perform too.

looked at them, but the hifonics seem to be held in pretty high regard with quite a few people i know. The price with xtant amps seems a little "over the top" so to speak, and I am edging towards something i know is a good thing. does xtant make a class d amp that can put out 500w to 2 of their speakers?

Yes. But they are in the high-end price range, I believe the 1000 wRMS amp is $999 retail, you can find them somewhat cheaper, but still will run in the $699-$800 price range. The Hifonics will be be fine, they are not bad amps, I have seen problems, but you must consider many variables when an amp goes bad.....mainly how it was used(or abused) by the owner.

I think you will be very happy w/ those subs, but they are more a SQ sub than a SPL sub. There are many well made amps on the market today. competition in the industry has forced many manufacturers to upgrade the quality of their amps b/c of forums like this. If an amp begins to have problems w/ several people, the manufacturer gets a bad rep and people will share the experience w/ others. That is what makes forums so important.

i agree, forums are important, been a member here for over a year now, and the information here is priceless. I am more of an SQ guy than SPL anyway, I tend to want to actually listen to "music" and not just bass. My kappas i have now are great, but i just want to move it up another notch and get another install under my belt.
