Just got a new, used car. Speakers are lacking, so i purchased 2x 4x6 300 watt sony explode speakers for front and 2x 6x9 500 watt sony explode speakers for the back My question is, can i power these by the wires from the factory speakers and do a switch job. Or is there more to it. Any ideas or flames excepted! Thanks Replies (8) ttocs on 05/9/2005 19:54:51 you can run them off of the factory radio after removing the old ones. There should be no fire or smoke if you do it right. You can get speaker hrns that plug into the factory hrns's and then connects to the speaker. swez on 05/10/2005 12:47:32 Don't expect too much better than stock with these speakers. Yes, they may have a bit better mid/highs and perhaps more SPL, but to get the most from them, an outboard amp will help a lot. How much amp power? A 50Wrms x 4 amp will definitely make a notable difference. However, if you do take this option later, make sure you use a good HPF (High Pass Filter) on the 4x6's. These should be crossed above 100 Hz. The rear 6x9's can be crossed at ~60 Hz., to give you some added bass performance. Which model # Sony's do you have here? FYI: Sony is not a favored brand for high end Car audio. They make decent HU's, but speakers, amps and subs are generally well under par and often very over priced for what we get. The power specs are a wild number that holds no water. Basically, total BS! Swez PS We don't flame here. Just inform, advice and help others sort out their system integration. Yes, we all have opinions. The Gold Medal guys are pretty savvy on products and install issues. However, there are a few guys that are pending Golds, waiting for their nods. Victor on 05/10/2005 13:26:35 Yes Swez, I agree, There are a few guys out here, who know the stuff really well.. It wud be great to promote them to the Gold Status. I guess the next Line of promotion is now due. Victor... Thanks guys so far, awesome help! Fusion on 05/10/2005 19:51:46 ..Also while were on the subject, i want to power 2 MtX 12' subwoofers i had a custom box made for, i do not know the statistic of the subs tho. My 850 watt amp got stolen and it seemed to power them fine, but i see these 2000 WATT! amps on ebay for less then the 850 watt one i got for $120. Why so cheap..? And do they work better..? I'am so confused ! Buickman94 on 05/10/2005 20:24:47 Alpine, Kenwood, MTX, Audiobahn, and RF all make solid 4channel amps that put out 50-70watts RMS @ 4ohms that can be found around $150 on ebay. Most of the 2000watt amps that you are talking about are brands Pyle, Legacy, Pyramid, and Boss. These amps are WAY overrated and will not put out anything clsoe to 2000watts. A true 2000watt amp would cost you a few hundread dollars but isnt needed for the subs you mentioned. If you can find out the model number of the subs (check all over the sub) and the Voice coil configuration.. dual, single, and what the impedence is ( ohm rating per voice coil) an amp to power them can be reccomended. Fusion on 05/11/2005 15:34:27 ..For my speaker would this be recommended http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48597&item=5772416842&rd=1 Key Features: 200W x 2 RMS @ 4 Ohms stereo 400W x 2 RMS @ 2 Ohms stereo 800W x 1 RMS @ 4 ohms mono PWM MOSFET Power Supply Semi-double Glass Epoxy Circuit Board THD: 0.02% S/N Ratio: >100dB Frequency Response: 10Hz - 40KHz (+/- 1dB) Variable 18dB Hi-pass Crossover: 50Hz - 750Hz Variable 18dB Low-pass Crossover: 50Hz - 120Hz 18dB Bass boost on/off Subsonic Filter: 20Hz to 50Hz RCA Throughput Connections 3-way Protection Circuitry: Thermal, Short Circuit, and Overload Cooling Fan Cobalt Blue Illumination High gloss Chrome Plated Finish Nickel Plated Block Terminals Air Induction Fan Cooled RCA and Speaker Level Inputs Dimensions: 1-7/8" (H) x 9-7/8" (W) x 11-7/8" (D) swez on 05/11/2005 20:28:15 I don't think either of these are Sony speakers. The 4x6's look like import knock offs and the 6x9's are made by Power Acoustik. That Bahn amp may be too strong for your interior speakers. The price is good, but if you wired up FR/RR to channel 1 and FL/RL to channel 2, that 200 Wrms per speaker. The 6x9's may survive that power, but the 4x6's probably will not. Buick made some very good recommendations on amp brands to consider. You can either go with a 2 channel that delivers ~200 Wrms x 2 @ 2 ohms or a 4 channel amp that nets 50-100 Wrms and have fade control on front to back. ==================================================== Sub amp: What model and size MTX subs do you have now? Enclosure details would help too. Depending on the series, we can make some good recommendations on a Class D sub amp in the proper power range for them. Do you have a budget number in mind for the sub amp? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
