USAcoutics USB-2150

I have just recently acquired a USB-2150 off of ebay. I plan on replacing a JBL powervalve 300.1. I know it might seem like a dumb move but, for connectivity reasons I think it's best. The JBL will have better use in my fiance's car running 2 Kicker F10's.

Anyway my current amp setup is a USB 4065 on two 5-1/4 component sets with the JBL (soon to be replaced with the 2150) pushing 2 Credence 8's (solobarics in disguise) 150 rms each which is a perfect match. The JBL plays fine but my deck only has two pairs of rca outputs. When you use the 4065 for all high-pass then the pass thru's are automatically low passed. Nothing wrong with that except that the JBL's crossover is non-defeatable and it contains no pass thru's to feed back to the 4065. This seemed to create a slight but noticeable upper bass problem on the 8's; even when either x-over was turned all the up. The end slope is just to steep and causes staging problems. Y-plug rca's only ended up eating away at my line voltage which also is not good. Plus also the setup's cosmetics I think will look better with matching amps.

What I would like to know is how strong is the 2150 for subs. The reason I ask is I also have the USB 2080 and it didn't seem that strong even when bridged on a rms matching one 10" setup.

The USB 2150 is somewhat over-rated, but not too bad. USAcoustics is a very small company, which is why you do not see much of them in the retail world.

The USB 2150, if I remember right is 150x2 @ 4ohms, 250x2 @ 2ohms. That should work out fine w/ your 8" subs. I know the USX are somewhat better amps, but for the price of USAcoustic, you can't really beat the $ to quality ratio. If I had to compare a brand to them, I would compare them to the Lanzar Opti's or the MA Audio MI series. IMHO they are some of the better quality low-end amps out there, as well as they carry a really good warranty(3 yrs last time I checked).

Yeah the rated power is 150rms@4ohm; 225rms@2ohm; and 450rms@4ohms bridged.

I figured that with that kind of power rating it would be a little more flexible than the 300.1. Especially since there are a lot of dual voice coil subs out there now. Yet, you say it is somewhat over-rated? Approximately how much? I'm looking at some other sub designs and it is important to know if this amp is true to it's ratings. I don't want to set my sights on something that it will not drive properly.

I made a typo(Yes, I do make mistakes), what I meant is it is probably somewhat under-rated b/c it is rated @ 12.9V, most amps are rated @ 14.4V. If you were to go w/ 4ohm DVC subs, I would suggest a range of 200-300 wRMS, if you were to run 4ohm SVC subs, would stick w/ 150-200 wRMS.
