Saving for the amp to power my Adire Tumult. Was planning on the JL 1000/1, but noticed that the specs say it gives a constant 1000wRMS@1.5-4ohms. My question is: if i have my 2ohmDVC tumult wired @1ohm resistance, is the 1000/1 going to be stable@1ohm? Better to be safe than sorry, especially when buying extremely over-priced JL Audio equipment. :) Replies (9) UKinstaller on 04/28/2005 18:52:03 NO!! the jl 1000/1 does not run at 1 ohm. as spectacular as an amp as it is, it just can' do it. wire that bad boy in series to produce a 4 ohm load. -UK swez on 04/28/2005 18:55:55 Absolutely! This amp has a unique power supply that can give full rated power to a range of speaker loads. Wire the sub in series for a 4 ohm load and you are good to go! Swez danielm87 on 04/28/2005 19:57:28 sorry guys i had a brain fart. it provides 1000wrms all across the spectrum. Wasnt thinking. Anyhow, time (and my paychecks) will tell whether or not im going to commit to buying a 1000/1. Several other brands are selling 1000wrms 1-ohm amps for a lot less. THANKS ANYWAYS lessismorespl on 04/28/2005 22:51:56 Yes, many brands do offer 1000 wRMS amps for less, but they are not true 1000 wRMS amps, you have to remember that they put out 1000 wRMS @ 14.4 volts, and trust me on this, it is hard to get 14.4 volts to the trunk of your car, every ft of wire causes some voltage loss. With the JL 1000/1 you will not only get 1000 wRMS across an impedance range of 1.5-4ohms, you will also get the same 1000 wRMS across a voltage range of 11-14.4 volts. You can find a Hifonics 1000 wRMS @ 1ohm, but that is if it is getting 14.4 volts, if you have the best wire, the perfect charging system(if there is such a thing), you may get 13.8 volts to the trunk. Another amp to look at is the Diamond Audio D61200.1 or if they still have some on eBay, the D51200.1(same amp, just changed one number for the new series) for about half of what the JL cost and the technology of those amps are awesome, I run a Diamond D3600.1 @ 1ohm and have never had a problem with it overheating or cutting out, and they are very effiient amps. Just something to think about. danielm87 on 04/28/2005 23:16:39 THANKS a BUNCH LessIsMore......i've really wanted some references, but didnt want to sound like a lazy a**!!! The 1000/1 is going to be too much $$$ for my frugal self. Any other good 800-1200wRMS@1ohm amp references would be appreciated! I want the best for my *baby*. (that sounded gay) P.S. - I might even buy the Diamond D3600.1 you mentioned. My charging system isnt the greatest, but that 600wRMS wont go to waste, thats for sure! lessismorespl on 04/28/2005 23:36:33 If you want the best, but do not want to pay the high price of the 1000/1 I would consider the Diamond Audio D5 or D61200.1, check out www.woofersetc.com or www.hifisoundconnection.com, they have a nice selection of Diamond Audio amps, on woofersetc you may want to check out the MMATS amps also, they are very good amps. danielm87 on 05/2/2005 23:24:42 I've settled with the power and affordability of the Hifonics BX-1205D. My Tumult will get a little under 1200wRMS@1ohm. After this little investment will come a new ALT and Deep Cycle Battery. Things are finally Rollin! Also i was wondering what PTF will net the most dBs with the Tumult in the 15-35Hz tuning range?? (FYI the enclosure will be 6.5cu.ft. before displ.) I'm aiming to sqeeze dBs out of this setup, but havent gotten around to testing different size enclosures and tuning freqs. Thanks for the help guys. cplkittle on 05/2/2005 23:42:38 Another thing to look at with Diamond is that if you purchase the 1000.1 or the 1500.1 (and by the way, these are RMS ratings)... from an authorized dealer, you get a lifetime warranty on that amplifier. I have an all Diamond setup in my car, and I have not yet found anything that can outperform it on volume or cleanliness. lessismorespl on 05/3/2005 08:35:50 That is very true, I'm running the low end Diamond Audio D3 series amps, the 600.1 is running at 1ohm and barely gets warm even after 2 or 3 hours of play time, and it makes the W3V2's hit harder than the Directed 750d and the hifonics 1000D I was running before I purchased the Diamond amp. Also, the Hifonics amp would get extremely hot and sometimes even cutoff when I was running it @ 1ohm, the directed amp just fried. They just started the lifetime warranty when they revamped the amps for 2005. However, when I bought the D3600.1 from an authorized dealer, it came w/ a 3 year warranty which is still better than many manufacturer's offer. I will definately run Diamond Audio amps when I upgrade my system and highly suggest people take a closer look at these amps. Even on the D3 series you are getting high end technology and quality for a very affordable price. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
