Obv the kappa has more power but 10 watts is not that big of deal rite? what MAKES the kappa better or the reference better

There are substantial differences between these two besides power handling. Most notably cone material, tweeter type, sensitivity and freq range. As well as ohmage. Try this link, this is both in a side by side comparison:

Correct! The Kappa is the upper part of the line while the Reference series is no slouch either. Ref does not have as many highend features noted on the Kappa series

I like woven cones over polymerics. The woven cones are more durable and sound more natural to me. However, I like the silk dome tweets over metalized versions as well. Sound much more natural and less harsh. However, since these are the back stage fill, either will work fine if you are not an extreme SQ nut. Just make sure you have enough RMS power to get them going. (50-75 Wrms min)

PS Personally, if you are going to pay more than $150.00 a set for rear speakers, I'd highly recommend the CDT CL-61a Comps. These are great at $150.00/set.

swez - do you know if they come in 6x9's? (the component system thats $150) because my rear stock speakers are 6x9 and im not too sure how to change the size (obv a professional will be expensive)

I was planning on purchasing a PG Xenon 100.2 amp for my 6x9s

the specs are

4,2,1 ohm stereo = 100x2
8,4,2 ohm bridged = 200x1
Recommended Fuse Size = 40 Amps
Power/Ground Wire Size = 8 Gauge
+_ 1 dB From 20 Hz to 20 kHz
Signal to noise ratio = 100 dB
High and Low pass Crossovers = Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB per octave
Crossover Range = 40 Hz to 400 Hz
Bass Boost = + 18 dB @ 45 Hz
Input Sensitivity = 200 millivolts to 8 volts
Lowest Recommended Load = 2 ohm bridged or 1 ohm stereo

would this be a good choice?

(also what is the number of amps drawn from the alt w/ this amp?)

Bahn has a few 6x9 Comps with stand alone crossover that can easily handle that power amp. Have a look at what they offer as some have coaxial designs and the tweeters are removable for alternate mounting locations.

As for current draw on that amp, probably about 30A nominal draw... closer to 37A at max power.

If you really want quality performance, the CDT Comps mention can easily be installed in a 6x9 hole with a conversion bracket kit. Round MB drivers sound much better than most ovals I have heard.... but this is just rear fill. So, 6x9's may be adequate to the task.

Note: Bahn rates power of speakers in pairs... not per each. (Ie: 250 Wrms rating = 125 Wrms per speaker)

swez - would the CDT handle the power of the xenon amp? and the SQ mean alot to me because those will be the only speakers i have in the car other than my 2 12' kicker CVRs, the front speakers are 4x6 kenwood (really low end kenwoods) and im not sure im going to bother even having them hooked up... (cant even handle the power of the HU at low volumes w/ low bass levels constantly distorting)

I COMPLETELY FORGOT about this amp ive had for AGES.... it was made in 94 or 95 i think

Its a Phoenix Gold Sapphire SAT1.5

obv i can use that to run my all my speakers - would it work w/ those CDTs

I am building a custom middle console for my blazer and im going to put my CD player there (wanted to be the only person w/ a CD player w/ a plexiglass hinged cover for an armrest) and im sure i could incorporate some 5 1/4's in there one facing driver one facing passenger so i can fit em in there but i was wondering if that was safe to put them in the same box the CD player is mounted in, would the sound waves from inside the hollow part of the console do anything to the CD player?

also where would i go about finding a kit to change the size?

To save money, a pair of decent 6x9 Coaxials in rear would be fine. Your best speakers should be up front ... MB driver in door panels, tweeters mounted in A-Pillars.

You are right, the front dash 4x6's are garbage for power and SQ. If I am not mistaken, there are air vents in the front door panels that will probably take a 5.25 - 6.5" Mid driver. Have a closer look and see what you can determine there.

As for the Sappire amp, it would be fine to bridge it to a 2 channel configuration and power the rear speakers. Use the Xenon amp for your front stage speakers. The CDT CL61-a Comps will handle all the Xenon amp can deliver and really sound nice if installed well.

Not sure I would recommend a center console mount for front speakers as you will have plenty of driver's side SPL, but limited passenger side audio. This would degrade stereo imaging as well. The doors are a much better location for the MB drivers.

Are we talking a Blazer SUV or a PU truck here? Is that the 4.3 engine package or a smaller 4 banger? Am concerned about power management from the electricals here.

i have done a BIG 3 upgrade and the alt is 200 amps so everything is fine and dandy and its the s10 blazer and the rinkadink 4 cylinder, although im not sure i would run 3 amps

also i read a post about an audiobahn equalizer u suggested, well for the price range of 150 could i get anything better?

swez on 04/29/2005 13:19:11
The price at most e-tail stores will be high. E-bay sellers have them for ~$60.00 + S/H. Have a look or do a google search and see what the best prices are for that item. It's very good.... a lot cheaper then Audio Control 3.1, which is similar but sells for > $200.00.

thanks for all the input swez

Like I said.... under $60.00 at E-bay:

$25.00 is start bid, 0 bidders, 2 days left.... watch and wait for placing your best bid within 2 mins of the end of the auction.

thanks swez - its always nice 2 save a few bux lol

also - what is the RMS of each of those CDT speakers? the website says 90 rms but is that BOTH speakers combined or each speaker? im looking into an audiobahn amp as well to push the speakers (2 4 ohm speakers wired into 4 ohm to get 100x2 rite?) http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/1594

swez on 04/29/2005 20:49:49
The CDT's are rated at 90 Wrms/speaker but can take more power due to the crossover losses. I have heard of guys pushing 120 Wrms through them and no real issues as long as they use good LP filtering on the MB driver and the tweets have over voltage limiters as well to protect them. If you hear the tweets cutting out, too much power there... back er down. The main thing about this system is placement of the drivers. If you choose them, can walk you through the steps and you'll really enjoy the results. Just ask Montego 27. His system is awsome.
