Hi guys. I've got a question. I got an Alpine MRP-F240 amp which is rated at 40rmsx4.... BUT that is at 14.4V... So my question is, is it worth using this amp over my deck's internal amp (18rmsx4)..... Will I notice a big difference between the internal amp of my deck and the external amp? Replies (6) UKinstaller on 04/27/2005 15:30:54 DEFINITELY. any amplifier on speakers will make them sound much cleaner, and you can turn them up louder without distortion. what kind of speakers??? -UK toyotaguy on 04/27/2005 15:32:48 alpine sps-170a and sps-690a.. HU is panasonic cq-c5401 UKinstaller on 04/27/2005 15:38:22 gotcha. put the amp on 'em, you won't regret it. -UK toyotaguy on 04/27/2005 15:47:17 Ok thanks :) I'm going to hook it up this weekend. MrBrownstone on 04/27/2005 18:23:24 Head Units average about 3-5 watts per channel...just not from 20Hz to 20kHz. Typically they do 45Hz - 20kHz. Although they advertise MAX power, head unit ratings are about as accurate as Boss/Legacy ratings. RMS power, is about 1/4 what the ratings are for max...and they really won't do full range. Think about it, if a CD player reserves about 1 thumbs worth of size to amplify the signal, how much more would a 40Wx4 amplifier be able to produce? swez on 04/27/2005 18:28:25 If your HU puts out a clean 15 Wrms x 4, are doing OK. But an amp that puts out 40 x 4 will net about +4 dB of sound per channel over the HU power amps. Plus, you have HP/LP filtering on the amp. Most HU's don't have that feature. This is where you can concentrate your power to specific frequency bands too. Hense, more drive to the speakers.
