The Most efficient Amp, anyone?!

Well. With my current alternator issues. I will probably look into buying a Optima Yellow or Red Top battery and replace the wires that run from the alternator and battery. This will be a decent start to get as much out of my alternator as possible.

But, the most important thing after that is to have an amp that creates the most watts per amp. I searched a few review sites and found some results. I am going to run a 12" Adire Brahma at 1 ohm. So anything decent in the range of 600 - 800 watts RMS would suite me fine. If I can even get that out of a 75 amp alternator.

Here are two models I found to be highly efficent:

memphis 1000d / 500d
33 amps = 332 watts

Crossfire 1000d
39 amps = 409 watts

Does anyone else have any stats or info for me? I'll need the amp to be 1 ohm stable, and prefer it to have 600 - 800 watts of capable power. But efficiency is the key, I need it to be as efficent per amp used as possible.

Thanks,
Derek

All of those are going to end up pulling more than what they are stated.

Realistically, if you are running them at 1 ohm, all three of those amps will push more than 1000 watts, and draw a ton of amps doing so. Yes they are efficient at 332, 409, and 684 watts, but at 1 ohm, you will never be running that low.

I would suggest either going with something that can run at 2 or even 4 ohms, or look into smaller amps, such as a JBL 600.1, or equivalent to it from Memphis, Crossfire, MTX, etc...

I would also be willing to bet that all of those ratings were taken at 14.4 volts, and with a 4 ohm mono load. If you look at realistically running at 11.5 - 13 volts, and a 1 ohm load, current draw is going to be a ton higher than what they state.

I couldn't find any info on what size the stock alternator is on a WRX, but I would imagine if you don't go nuts, you could get a pretty good system going without killing your car.

The alternator in my WRX is 75 amps. I don't know what is left of that after the car starts and everything else.

So 4 ohm loads draw less amps than 2 or 1 ohm loads?

The MTX 1000D, was reviewed by CarSound Magazine or something. It was a pro review with stats, bench tests, and performance graphs. That stat of 684 watts was at 12.5v and a 4 ohm load. It hit 1287 or something at 2 ohm load.

I'm just trying to figure out how I can get every last bit of SPL out of my 75 +/- amps. Hmm...

Here is a link to a review for the MTX 500D,

I can't find the link to the 1000D, but it would be similar, just higher numbers.

Info on Dual Alternator Hook Up. Doubt that has much room in my 4 bangers hood.
