I bought a used Adire Audio Tumult for 350$. The sub was used for two months, and is in perfect condition. If you ask me, 350$ is a steal for this kind of sub. I've sold my Eclipse SW9152 to a friend, so i'm gonna break out the BEAST from the basement and start the wonderful process of buying an amp and building a box. I've e-mailed Adire's Tech Support asking what kind of RMS wattage the Tumult needs, but have had no luck finding an official number, because they never replied. On several forums i have seen the numbers 1500-1700w RMS being tossed around, and in all honesty, i'm gonna have to go with around 500-800 watts, because my current setup is a Yellow Top Optima battery and a 120AMP alternator. And YES, i'm doing a vehicle install with a Tumult! Hehe. As a rule of thumb, i'd assume the Tumult to be a hair louder than a Brahma. (both with same power and enclosures) I'm also trying to figure out what the resistance of the coils are on the Tumult.....is it a DVC or SVC? and is it 1,2,4 ohm? After that is cleared up, i'm gonna look for my amp, anywhere from 500-800watts RMS with the according ohm resistance, whichever the Tumult is. and FYI....I'm expecting to pay UNDER 250$ for the amplifier. Any references or links are appreciated. As far as the box goes, i'll be building it all myself, since i've done quite a few installs and boxes over the past couple years. I'm definitely gonna go with ported, although some specs may call for a sealed box, i have a strong bias thats in favor of ported boxes. SMILE Tips, Comments, and Suggestions are always GOOD! Replies (6) uochronos on 04/18/2005 20:27:41 umm all the specs for it are on adires web site just go download them... i downlaoded it and it looks like its a 2 ohm although it doesnt say dual or single VC with a 34mm xmax and a pmax of 1600watts i would say in the right box you could reach xmax with 1000watts. not a bad sub at all looks like it orginaly sold for 500$ so 350 is a good deal for a barely used one. good luck. sounds on 04/18/2005 20:28:53 Adire Audio Tumult some info on there about the coils and box size danielm87 on 04/18/2005 21:55:11 Hey thanks for the link "sounds"...i hadnt stumbled across a website that actually came out and said the entire coil description, and that one does! So its a 2 ohm DVC.....thanks. swez on 04/19/2005 07:01:59 Yep, 2+2 DVC here Dan. As for power, this sub will appreciate 1000 Wrms as Pmax is 1600. Sealed will give you full, crisp bass while ported will add more deep bass at PTF. Swez danielm87 on 04/19/2005 20:59:14 Tech Support finally e-mailed me back - " Tumults are dual 2 Ohm voice coil units only; RMS thermal is 1600W, but mechanical power handling is completely dependent upon your application. Typically 800-1200W is used for Tumult installs. Tumults have been used in cars with good results - as with all installs, it depends upon your install ability. Thanks again, Adire Tech Support" I cant wait to get that monster rumbling - mid/upper 140dBs anyone? SMILE swez on 04/19/2005 22:34:51 A good chance of reaching that number with 800-1000 Wrms @ 1 ohm. The key, make an efficient enclosure to get the most for sub. Sealed boxes are easiest to make and handle more power, but a Ported or vented box will net +3-5dB more SPL at tuned frequency. If you go Ported, MAKE SURE YOU USE A SUB SONIC FILTER. This will protect the sub from damage at frequencies below port tune freq. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
