I have an Alpine HU, CDE-7828. Is it possible, feasible, acceptable to run the RCA's to a 4 ch amp, and the use the speaker wires for high-level inputs to an amp for subs? Will it fry anything in the HU? Different question. Can an amp cause clipping? Or will an amp only amplify the signal that is fed to it? Replies (3) compvr15s on 04/17/2005 20:42:51 why dont you just run another set of rca wires from the output on the amp to the input on the other amp, or just us a splitter and then goto each amp, would probably work better than the idea you brought forth.... as for the amp clipping question, do you mean will it cause clipping through speakers that are not hooked to it? if thats the question id think probably not, do you have gains. bass booste set too high, are you gettin distrotion through interior speakers. are they being ran off the head unit? if so you may need to lower the volume on the HU or get some bass caps to wire into your speakers allowing only certain freqs to run through them.... hope i helped a lil good luck swez on 04/18/2005 08:59:13 There are several good ways to do this. Most newer amps have pass through RCA preout to feed another amp. Ideally, your 4 channel has that feature and you can power the sub amp this way. Another good option is to install a Line driver/EQ. These boost HU voltage high enough to feed multiple amps. http://www.thezeb.com/p-Audiobahn-AEQ6Q-Equalizer-100317.htm This one has 2 RCA inputs from HU, 6 outs and you can control Mid/Highs volume/fade, Bass output feature and 5 bands of Parametric EQ. The max output is 8.0 volts. Have seen this model off e-bay for $60.00 + S/H. Swez gearhead on 04/18/2005 12:23:35 I'm just dinkin' around, cobbing together a home stereo, with stuff I already have on hand. My 4ch amp (bazooka MA460) doesn't have pass throughs. It does have both high level and RCA inputs. My sub amp (Bazooka EL 1500) has pass throughs for 2ch's, and RCA inputs but no high level inputs. My HU is 4ch with RCA's and speaker wires. My TV is 2ch with RCA's. I want to use the 4ch amp to drive 2- 6x9's & 2- 5 1/4's, and use the mono amp to drive the sub/subs. When I'm watching TV (stereo), I'll need Y cables from the TV to the amp to use all 4 ch's, correct? I'm the quintessential cheapskate, and would like to do this as economically as possible (don't really want to buy "more" stuff). If I'm wasting anyones time, just say so, I've got pretty thick skin.
