New Amp + Sub installation

Sup guys... im a noob in car audio systems... after being scared by friends that have serious audio systems on their cars to not install my new headset myself... i naturally installed my first headset, JVC, and all was well ... easy quite frankly... now i bought a sub and an amp... Amp = 2 CH 800 watts, 400 watts RMS per channel, 800 watts RMS bridged. Sub = 500 watts max, 250 watts RMS... My question is, can i hook up the sub to one channel of the 400 watts RMS amp when the sub is 250 RMS. If so, does it require for me to lower the power manually, if possible somehow, to not damage the sub. It seems to me i will damage the sub when i do the RMS math, but since the sub 500 watts max can it take the 400 watts RMS the amp outputs? im not sure how this works... thanx ! ! !

Am not familiar with that amp at all. Am not sure, but look at the fuses used in this amp. The pic shows 2 blue ones (usually 10A ratings for blue). If this amp is a true 400 Wrms x 2, (at what load rating?) I would expect a pair of 50A fuses for the power mentioned in the ad.

This looks like a "fool the noob's" ad to me. If the fuses are less than 40A each... no way to get that kinda power from this amp. However, the best way to use this amp on subs, bridge the amp for MONO and have a net 4 ohm sub load to the amp.

Also, look at the RCA input voltage specs. It notes 100mV- 1.0 volts range. A HU that put out 2 volts or more, will drive the amp into high distortion values. Could be a typo, as most amps can do up to 4.0 volts of RCA input.

Not sure what ya got here friend.... but it probably is not what you were lead to believe.

I C... well thanx for da input... it still brings me to the question... lets say the amp is not as powerful as advertised... will it damage the 250 W RMS / 500 W Max subwoofer as advertised (or below advertised specs)

Sorry to bring that bad news, but as long as an amp is not in severe clipping mode... (high distortion values) it will not harm the sub if underpowering same.

PS Look for a better amp if you have not bought one yet.
