I have a 93 Nissan Bluebird SSS... just bought a stereo (Sony WX-5900MD) connected everything up color-coded wise (except one extra wire lite blue and white says "ATT" on it)... My problem is when I turn off my car the stereo stays on, BUT, with my car off I cannot turn the stereo on. Also, the head unit is very hot to the touch in back after short operation... damn hot. I'm running a Sony head unit into a Sony Dvd Changer I'm running a Sony head unit into a Pioneer Power Amp which feeds into a Pioneer Subwoofer Enclosure (one 12" speaker).... I haven't gotten into crosssover's and all that yet, but overall the sound ain't too bad but the heat issue and ignition issue is frightening. Replies (10) uochronos on 04/14/2005 03:32:34 the heat prolly isnt a issue they get pretty damn hot under normal operation.. as for the not turning off did you use an adaptor harness from the factory plug or cut the factory plug off? Chronos gene2112 on 04/14/2005 03:45:26 adapter harness Mr._Miyagi on 04/14/2005 19:18:27 I am not quite sure how this could happen if u used a wiring harness thing, but it sounds to me like the wire that feeds the head unit constant power is switched with the ignition wire so that it stays on all the time. I am pretty new here so there is a 90% chance this could be wrong. Let Uchronos or another gold reply before you take action. Anyhow, that is my one insight. cybersalvy on 04/14/2005 20:18:13 u say when ur car is off the stereo stays on... then u say when its off u CANT turn it on... do u turn the stereo off then cant turn it on again when ur car is not running?... im not sure wat ur trying to say but since its on when u turn it off.. you might have the battery and acc power lines mixed up... try checking those are hooked up in the right order, or if u reversed them. gene2112 on 04/14/2005 21:54:29 yes, that's what i'm trying to say... I don't have the batt (yellow) and acc (red) mixed up.. the only thing i can think (since my Head Unit book in in Japanese) is that maybe that's like built into the Head Unit as an option? I dunno, never had one do that to me before. trunkisloud on 04/14/2005 22:10:55 was that a factory feature on the origional radio....some cars radio stays on till you open the door then wont come back on till u turn the ignition....? ttocs on 04/15/2005 11:10:47 some aftermarket radios in chryslers will stay on for a minute or two after turning the car off. They use a cap to keep voltage on the switched to retain memory. It takes a little bit for it to turn off. Is that radio pushing any speakers? It could be an impedence problem if it was wired into a premium system. ryan2 on 04/15/2005 11:36:29 Like ttocs and a few other have said with some cars the radio will stay on for a while untill you open the door or after a few minutes have passed (which ever happens first). Also when you said it wont turn on with the car off do you have the key turned to acc. or all the way off. To turn the radio on while the car is off you have to have the key turned to acc. gene2112 on 04/16/2005 17:57:07 OK, new twist in the plot.... When I turn the car off, not only does the stereo (including amp) stay on, but also the cigarette lighter and clock.... when i turn the stereo off, all other items turn off as well. This is in the engine off, key removed position. Could I have the power and acc reversed? i checked the power wire (yellow) with a tester and it remains constant and the acc wire (red) lights up only if the ignition is on... that's correct, right? AND.... the AMP power is feeding STRAIGHT from the battery.. only the accy and remote (blue) go to the head unit..... I'm beginning to think I have a problem with the accessory not shutting off. But why would that affect the cigarette lighter and clock? Do they all run off the same fuse? I could check that, I s'pose. Would appreciate any input.. Thanks swez on 04/16/2005 20:24:01 Clock should be powered at all times, but not illum. Cigarette lighter... some have power all the time, some only when in ACC/IGN. Depends on the vehicle. Power to AMP and HU... only in ACC/IGN modes. If you have power there all the time, the HU will remain on and if HU has power to stay on, so will amp via REMote. I believe you may have a HU wiring problem here. That could be why HU is so hot as well. Check your install manual for details on HU wiring needs.
