You basically just told me that I should be using the Alpine for my subs. I am thinking about buying 2 new JL audio 12w3v2's any input on these? Tray on 07/11/2003 09:25:39 JLs are a very good sub. There are a lot of people who swear by them, and others who think they are crap. I personally have other brands that I favor, but JL is one of the better brands, and I'm sure you'd be happy with them. BUT - I wouldn't try running a pair of them with that Alpine amp. You will need a lot more power than that to run those subs. The PPI, assuming it is similar to the PCX250 would be great for some components, and the Alpine would work for some mids, or some components as well. I'd look into investing in a sub amp to run any pair of 12s, not just the JLs. If cash is a big concern, try looking at the US Acoustics amps. Swez recommends them highly, and although I've never used them, he definitely knows what he's talking about, and the prices are really quite good. Swez on 07/11/2003 09:14:49 This is a modest bass amp (Alpine) and the JL's can take a lot more power and are more expensive to get get full benefit from this amp/sub combo. However, if you plan to upgrade to a larger sub amp at some point, the JL's mention are a very good choice for High SQ and good SPL. If you do go JL here, be sure to buy the 4+4 DVC version. Then you can bridge the amp for full power at 4 ohms net or 2 ohms per channel in stereo mode. Just curious, how much are these JL's going for? Swez PS If you wnt to find out more info on the other 2 amps, may wish to try a google search on each and see what come back. audiophile007 on 07/13/2003 16:50:58 I checked google and yahoo. Nowhere could I find anything on any of these amps, that is why I came here. I did end up buying the JL's I bought 2 JL 12w3v2 List on these are about 250 apiece. I found them in a once in a lifetime warehouse sale at a local car audio dealer (Cartunes) for 450 bucks for the pair in a JL audio sealed inclosure. The subs rock, eventhough they are underpowerd for the moment. Swez on 07/13/2003 18:11:18 Cartunes eh? They have a Cartunes here in SE Michigan.... wonder if they are one in the same as the store near me that carries some premium brands too??? Sorry your search did not go well... I looked too after I read your post and did not find any archived data but try this site: http://www.lanzar.com/closeouts/specials.asp http://www.precisionpower.com/amps/pcx250.asp if similar, looking at ~50x2 RMS watts if this is the newer version of the PC-250 If you know the fuse ratings of these amps, can approximate the power they can do by using the following formula: Voltage x current = total watts input x 0.55 = approximate output watts total Example: 13.0 volts x (15+15) = 30A fuse = 390 watts input max x 0.55 = 214.5 watts 0r 107.25 per channel Hope that helps, Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
